Job Description

The NYC Health and Hospitals Social Work Training Academy provides training and continuing education opportunities for social workers through:
  1. Orientation/onboarding training
  2. Clinical evidence-based practice training
  3. Clinical grand rounds
  4. Professional development for social work interns placed in the System

General tasks and responsibilities:

Under the supervision of the Associate Director of Social Work Training, the Clinical Social Work Trainer (Social Worker Level V) will work within a NYC Health + Hospitals facility to provide behavioral health services and participate in the development and delivery of the Academy's training curriculum including curriculum for the following evidence-based practices:
  1. Motivational Interviewing (MI)
  2. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
  3. Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
  4. Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT)
  5. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

Social Work Training Academy Training Design and Delivery
  1. Working as part of a team to deliver comprehensive clinical social work training including a discipline-specific orientation for new hires and ongoing professional development of existing staff. Training delivery will take place virtually and in person.
  2. Participation in the development of clinical and evidence-based practice training curriculum to include didactic instruction, the use of interactive activities, role-play, and other creative training design elements
  3. Oversee and provide training for 6-month evidence-based practice training cohorts to include teaching of key skills and concepts; provide clinical supervision of social workers in the implementation of evidence-based treatment with patients; provide guidance and best practice support for documentation of treatment modalities; and resources for continued learning and practice.
  4. Provide clinical group supervision groups for social workers enrolled in SW Training Academy evidence-based practice cohorts.
  5. Training on adaptations to existing evidence-based practice training content to ensure equitable implementation of interventions across diverse treatment settings and client populations, including complex and high-risk cases.
  6. Monitor and evaluate the performance of clinical social work enrolled in the Social Work Training Academy, providing feedback and supervision as needed.
  7. Participating in the identification of internal or external training vendors to develop supplemental training content through monthly clinical grand rounds.
  8. Participating in train-the-trainer educational sessions in select evidence-based practices as needed.
  9. Provide consultation to Social Work Training Academy management to optimize training flow and protocols
  10. Provide clinical supervisory support to social work interns placed throughout the System

Training Quality and Evaluation
  1. Administrative oversight of evidence-based practice cohort enrollment and activity completion.
  2. Working with necessary departments to track attendance and completion of System-wide Social Work Orientation courses.
  3. Maintaining attendance for clinical grand rounds and evidence-based practice cohort training sessions.
  4. Collect and maintain accurate training and education records to evaluate training completion and implementation against stated learning objectives.
  5. Collaborating with Social Work Training Academy data and quality staff to conduct training evaluations.
  6. Participates in Social Work Training Academy Leadership and Performance Improvement Committees/Meetings as needed.

Facility-based Clinical Services
  1. Provide several hours of facility-based behavioral health treatment to patients weekly in order to strengthen and enhance clinical training to include:
  2. Screening and assesses patients for mental health and substance use disorders. Facilitate patient engagement and follow-up care
  3. Conducting initial intake assessments and treatment plans of for patients with behavioral health needs.
  4. Engaging clients in individual (in person or over the phone) and/or group counseling sessions using evidence-based practice interventions such as motivational interviewing, problem solving therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy.
  5. Supporting psychotropic medication management, as prescribed by medical providers, focusing on treatment adherence monitoring, side effects and effectiveness of treatment (when applicable).
  6. Adhering to record-keeping in the EHR and other required systems, reports, and related correspondence and/or paperwork as per Health + Hospitals protocols.
  7. Making recommendations and facilitates changes to treatment plans based upon documented progress of clients toward goals, and collaborates with the Treatment Team in Comprehensive Treatment Plans Interviews domestic violence victims to assess the need for concrete and/or counseling services.

Additional Responsibilities
  1. Demonstrate knowledge about departmental, facility, network, city, state, federal and Joint Commission standards and regulations.
  2. Participate in the Departmental cross training.
  3. Participate in Departmental Leadership and Performance Improvement Committees/Meetings.
  4. Conduct and/or attends individual, unit, departmental, intra/inter hospital, and community meetings as mandated by the administration and/or supervisor.
  5. Uphold NYC Health + Hospitals mission of identifying opportunities to reduce racism's impact in clinical care, education and training, professionalism, staff development, staff engagement and in provider and staff recruitment.   6. Ensure compliance with Child Protection and Domestic Violence policies, procedures and laws.
  7. Perform other duties assigned by supervisor as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Valid license as an LCSW issued by the NYSED, and two (2) years of supervisory experience utilizing casework, group work and/or community organization methodologies.
