Clinical Workflow Informaticist - Outpatient RN Preferred

The UT Southwestern Clinical Informatics Center is the leader in developing, implementing, and evaluating effective Clinical Informatics solutions for those in health care and the people/patients that they serve andin educating future clinicalinformaticians.

Ambulatory Clinical experience is critical to understanding this role

This is a level one (entry level) position

Experience and Education:

• Bachelor's degree with training in a healthcare profession required; Nursing degree preferred, and two (2) years clinical experience, Ambulatory preferred.

• One (1) year experience utilizing EPIC EMR

• 3 to 5 years' experience with implementing and optimizing clinical informatics or quality/patient safety improvement initiatives

• Working knowledge of various quality improvement processes

• Licensure to practice in area of degree if applicable

• PC proficiency including but not limited to Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Visio, Word, etc.)

Job Duties
  • Participate in detailed workflow analysis of current state clinical and business operations with supervision.
  • Learn to identify gaps between current and best practice workflows and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Assist clinic leadership with identifying areas of opportunity and implementing new processes / modifications to existing processes.
  • Work with clinical technology team to understand the application requirements and customer needs to effectively integrate workflow and patient care processes.
  • Support for Upgrades and clinical workflow processes.
  • Be an active participant in assigned projects by meeting deadlines, attending meetings, and providing relevant feedback to meet the needs of the project.
  • Develop and maintain competency on pertinent applications and technologies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Work requires familiarity with use of personal computers.
  • Work requires telephone and personal contact with all levels of faculty and staff within UT Southwestern to assist in project coordination.
  • Work requires telephone and personal contact with other public and private organizations to obtain assistance in development and establishment of programs.
  • Work requires minimal physical exertion but may require sitting and standing for long periods of time.
  • Work requires ability to read, write, and analyze data.
  • Work requires ability to develop plans, procedures, and coordinate persons and other resources to accomplish goals.
  • Work requires ability to perform under broad direction and desired results are indicated in broad terms or objectives.
  • Work requires determination of methods and approaches to work problems.
Working Conditions

Work is performed primarily in office environment or in the work locations of programming staff, administrative users, or end users.

Any qualifications to be considered as equivalents in lieu of stated minimums require prior approval of Vice President for Human Resources Administration or his/her designee.

This position is security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code •51.215, which authorizes UT Southwestern to obtain criminal history record information.
