Project/Unit Description
The Secure Information Systems Division (SIS) within the Cybersecurity, Information Protection, and Hardware Evaluation Research Laboratory (CIPHER) is looking to hire a DevOps Cloud Engineer for the ROCK project, revolving around system networking and application virtualization in a security sensitive environment. Candidates must enjoy working with open source software and cutting edge technologies. Candidates will contribute to sponsored research projects and have an opportunity to interact with other scientists and engineers. Candidate should also have the desire to mentor and lead more junior developer teams as this team continues to grow.
Job Purpose
The Cloud Engineer designs solutions and resolves issues related to application virtualization and cloud infrastructure projects with modest levels of support. The engineer works closely with sponsors on iterative projects in a security sensitive environment supporting a wide array of management tools and system architectures.

This is a technical role with unique challenges, a successful candidate should enjoy solving technical problems. Flexibility towards differing management tools and system architectures is a prerequisite for success in this role, as the projects are iterative in nature and will change over time. Successful candidates need to be self-starting and have the ability to design solutions and resolve issues with modest levels of support.
Understanding of core DevOps practices (Configuration Management, Continuous Integration, Infrastructure as Code, Continuous Delivery, Continuous Deployment, Continuous Monitoring)
Demonstrated experience with common configuration management version control, build and deployment tools
Experience with modern cloud build and deployment tools
Required Minimum Qualifications
The Cloud Engineer designs solutions and resolves issues related to application virtualization and cloud infrastructure projects with modest levels of support. The engineer works closely with sponsors on iterative projects in a security sensitive environment supporting a wide array of management tools and system architectures.

Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and support creation, deployment, and maintenance of cloud-based solutions for various software stacks.
- Design and integrate multi-level, multi-compartment security features into new and existing applications.
- Serve as a resource and subject matter expert for tools and technologies used by SIS teams.
- Serve as a subject matter expert for DevOps solutions that include Ansible using CI/CD Pipelining.
- Serve as a subject matter expert regarding Agile methodology.
- Review code pull-requests and provide feedback to team members to ensure sponsor requirements and code quality thresholds are being met.
- Create level-of-effort (LOE) estimates for assigned tasks and communicate schedule updates to stakeholders.
- Create and maintain documentation for code and system components.
- Run live demonstrations to showcase implemented work to sponsors, answer their questions, and solicit and document feedback.

- Prior experience as a DevOps engineer
- Prior supervisor/leadership role
- Technical diagnostic expertise including problem investigation, reproduction, and resolution skills
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret DoD Security clearance
- Willingness to obtain a CISSP certification
- Ability and willingness to work onsite
Preferred Qualifications
- Active Secret Clearance
- Prior experience promoting the integration of security best practices into the lifecycle of products or applications
- Prior experience managing a CI server
- Prior experience creating CI server scripts and reports
- Prior experience integrating CI servers into existing projects
