Provides direct and indirect patient care under the direction of a Registered Nurse and/or Physician. Provides personal care, comfort and assists with maintaining a clean environment, equipment and supplies.
Qualifications
- Provides general nursing care such as positioning patients, lifting and turning patients, transferring patients and assisting patients with ambulation.
- Notifies appropriate licensed staff when patient complains of pain.
- Takes and records temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, weight and intake-output.
- Obtains patient specimens; delivers specimens to the laboratory, retrieves PACS films.
- Prepares patients for tests and surgery according to policies and procedures.
- Prepares patients for meals; serves and removes food trays and assists with meals or feeds patients, if necessary.
- Answer patient call lights, makes rounds to assigned patients.
- Demonstrates the ability to write clear, concise notes and simple charting that reflects patient care given in EMR.
- Orders supplies as needed.
- Prepares medical records for new admissions and discharged patients.
- Transcribes Physicians' orders within one (1) hour after being written.
- Enters and verifies orders in the computer system.
- Retrieves Clinical Lab results from computer and brings the results to the attention of the charge nurse.
- Answers telephone/intercom in a polite manner and communicates information to the appropriate personnel/family.
Qualifications
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification in Indiana
- Current BCLS certification
- Minimum of two (2) years' experience in a hospital setting
- Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and written
- Additional languages preferred
- Basic computer knowledge
- Basic skills in Clinical Care Station, Order Management, and Patient Supply
- Knowledge of nursing care methods and procedures, sterile technique, and medical terminology
- Knowledge of safe use of various pieces of medical equipment
