Provides direct and indirect patient care under the direction of a Registered Nurse and/or Physician. Provides personal care, comfort and assists with maintaining a clean environment, equipment and supplies.
  • Provides general nursing care such as positioning patients, lifting and turning patients, transferring patients and assisting patients with ambulation.
  • Notifies appropriate licensed staff when patient complains of pain.
  • Takes and records temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, weight and intake-output.
  • Obtains patient specimens; delivers specimens to the laboratory, retrieves PACS films.
  • Prepares patients for tests and surgery according to policies and procedures.
  • Prepares patients for meals; serves and removes food trays and assists with meals or feeds patients, if necessary.
  • Answer patient call lights, makes rounds to assigned patients.
  • Demonstrates the ability to write clear, concise notes and simple charting that reflects patient care given in EMR.
  • Orders supplies as needed.
  • Prepares medical records for new admissions and discharged patients.
  • Transcribes Physicians' orders within one (1) hour after being written.
  • Enters and verifies orders in the computer system.
  • Retrieves Clinical Lab results from computer and brings the results to the attention of the charge nurse.
  • Answers telephone/intercom in a polite manner and communicates information to the appropriate personnel/family.

Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification in Indiana
  • Current BCLS certification
  • Minimum of two (2) years' experience in a hospital setting
  • Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and written
  • Additional languages preferred
  • Basic computer knowledge
  • Basic skills in Clinical Care Station, Order Management, and Patient Supply
  • Knowledge of nursing care methods and procedures, sterile technique, and medical terminology
  • Knowledge of safe use of various pieces of medical equipment
