Purpose of the Job
The purpose of this position is to ensure the safety and wellbeing of Gila County Citizens and their properties, promoting a safe, clean neighborhood. This position conducts and reports on inspections, in addition to monitoring cases and preparing documents. The role also involves customer service duties, plan reviewing and permit issuance.

This position explains County procedures or processes and negotiates or persuades.
WRITTEN COMMUNICATION DUTIES
This position creates or edits documents, internal memos, emails, formal letters, reports and contracts.
INTERACTIONS WITH THE GENERAL PUBLIC
Interacts regularly with internal coworkers and other departmental personnel over the telephone, by email, and/or in person. Incidental contact with the public may occur as part of the work location.

Minimum Education/Directly Related Experience Required
MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED
High School Diploma or GED.
MINIMUM YEARS OF DIRECTLY RELATED EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Two (2) years relevant experience in code enforcement or familiarity of building codes; or equivalent education, training and experience.
PROFESSIONAL CREDENTIALS REQUIRED
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License.

Customer and personal service; building and construction; public safety and security; law and government; Federal, State, Local laws, regulations, and Statutes. Basic statistical techniques and applications; business English and report writing; computer software for database and presentations, spreadsheets and mail merge.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Incumbents in this position use standard office equipment, including a computer, in the course of the work; drives a motor vehicle to attend meetings and visit various work sites including outside construction sites; uses standard office equipment, in the course of the work. Work may be performed outdoors and in construction areas.
SAFETY RISK EXPOSURE
Incumbents in this position on rare occasions may become exposed to telephone verbal abuse by customers or citizens, may be exposed to physical danger, mechanical hazards, chemical hazards, electrical hazards, fire hazards and extreme temperature.
PROTECTIVE GEAR & SAFETY MANUALS
Incumbents in this position are required to constantly follow written safety procedures and manuals relevant to the division or department.

Potential errors can cause inconveniences to other employees, and/or delays in related work areas. Delays of services are possible.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Conducts site inspections, verifying validity of complaint, composes consequent reports, and opens cases, referring relevant items to other government agencies.

- Prepares Notice of Violation/Summons and sets hearing and compliance dates.

- Monitors cases and reports any changes, keeping complainants informed, and works with owners to resolve violations and achieve compliance.

- Prepares documentation for cases required to go before Hearing Officer.

- Provides customer service: answers questions; assists public with preparation of building and zoning applications.

- Reviews incoming plans and permit requests for compliance to regulations.

- Interprets County codes and determines/helps to meet permit and other requirements.

- Issues permits and ensures applicants are aware of changes needed to comply with code.

- Performs other duties as assigned.
