The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

The Department of Radiology is seeking a Coding Specialist. The incumbent will report to the Director of Coding and Compliance.The position is located in Fort Lee, NJ office location.

Responsibilities:
  • Assess clinical documentation reports submitted by physicians that support Radiology and Interventional Radiology Services in 3M and Epic.Analyze the medical records to abstract theICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT, HCPCS, and modifiersfor procedures supported by the health record in accordance with coding conventions.
  • Code Interventional Radiology for services in 3M. Review charges and append appropriate evaluation and management consult codes when necessary.
  • Accurately verify coding according to payer guidelines to ensure completeness with a goal of submitting clean claims to all payers.
  • Access encoder software applications, including all applicable online tools,to identify appropriate codes and reference code applicability, rules, and NCCI guidelines.
  • Review and update coding-related edits in EPIC on a daily basis. Make the necessary coding changes/corrections as requested in the edit and release charges for timely billing.
  • Assists with the review of coding inquiries/denials as necessary.
  • Maintain and reconcile MD Audit used for the performance of physician review through MD Audit.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of medical terminology through participation in continuing education programs to effectively apply ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT, and HCPCS coding guidelines to inpatient and outpatient Radiology procedures.
  • Maintain certified coding credentials per the certified coding requirements and demonstrate annual compliance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Minimum Qualifications
  • Requires a Bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus two years of related experience.
  • CPC or RHIT certification is required.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and simultaneously undertake multiple tasks.
  • Good organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills and developed levels of discretion and confidentiality are essential. Must possess the ability to set priorities, meet deadlines, and take initiative.
  • Experience with professional services coding and knowledge of medical terminology required.

  • Preferred Qualifications
    • Specialized knowledge in Radiology Interventional Coding preferred.
