About the Position:

As a Communications Center Systems Technician you will provide technical support to all Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) and Management Information Systems (MIS) programs to ensure that the CAD/MIS systems run efficiently and enhances the performance level of the Department's communications centers and the Department's ability to respond. This position also ensures that the Department and the public can benefit from the use of the CAD system.

Minimum Qualifications

•Working knowledge of Virginia State Police (VSP) Communication's Center procedures; of server systems, Windows operating system, Microsoft software applications; and of the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requirements.
•Skill in working with database systems, computer hardware setup/configuration, and in using standard office equipment.
•Demonstrated ability to monitor, troubleshoot, and update Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) servers, databases, software, hardware, and individual workstations; to read and interpret technical manuals for systems and products in the installation, operation, and support of information systems equipment and solutions; to perform routine backup and maintenance of CAD servers and CAD database information; to provide training/instruction to CAD/Management Information System (MIS) users; to consider knowledge of FOIA requirements; to collect, interpret and integrate relevant data from multiple sources; to work independently and as a member of a team; to communicate effectively orally and in writing in English; and to develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers.
•Valid motor vehicle operator's license required.
•High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
•Must be eligible to become Virginia Criminal Information Network (VCIN) certified within one year from hire, which requires either United States (U.S.) citizenship or having been a lawful permanent resident of the U.S. and eligible for naturalization.

Additional Considerations

•Experience with Virginia State Police (VSP) dispatching procedures, VSP CAD systems, Digital Equipment Corporation's (DEC) Open Virtual Memory-Based Operating System (VMS) preferred.
