Job Duties

Do you follow every local reporter on social media? Can you pick out the perfect talking points from any conversation? Is your curiosity insatiable? Do you envision the front page, top-of-the-fold placement when you have a story idea? Can you convince someone in white gloves to eat a ketchup popsicle? Does your creative copywriting make readers squeal with delight? Is your attention to detail at a master level? Do you have all the questions, and more importantly, always get the answers?

If you answered with an emphatic yes, then we need you to round out the Science Museum of Virginia's communications team!

The Science Museum is looking for a strategic top-performer who can manage internal and external communications for the agency and its satellite locations, and assist with support requests for its affiliated foundations. We need a storyteller who has proven external communications experience. We need a project manager who can organize and energize internal initiatives. We need a spokesperson who can be camera-ready with just minutes notice.

The communications coordinator will be a well-rounded, collaborative cheerleader that can juggle multiple projects at once and can pivot for each campaign and unannounced media pop-in. A positive outlook, solutions-oriented attitude and data-driven decisions mindset are a must.

Joining the Science Museum's team of passionate, creative and idea-filled professionals offers an opportunity to expand your skill set unlike any other. Make sure if you're applying for this position, you're ready to think quickly, perform at your highest level and deliver results. But don't worry, while we work hard, there's no shortage of fun and quirky projects to make going to work each day truly enjoyable.
