Job Summary:

The Communications Coordinator receives, documents and shares the incoming patient information from Emergency Medical Services (EMS) agencies via the HEAR radio system and medical control phone system. Responds to communication initiation from the Northern Virginia Healthcare Alliance and air transport communication systems. Observes, documents, and communicates cardiac rhythms at the communication station under the direction and supervision of the primary Registered Nurse. Assesses the ongoing status of ordered tests and treatments on registered patients to facilitate patient flow. This position must demonstrate a commitment of quality service to our patients, the public and our co-workers.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Intakes patient information from REMS agencies.
  • Communicates patient report to the charge nurse.
  • Activates code yellow status per guidelines.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of EMS protocols.
  • Documents rhythm strips according to standards.
  • Maintains communication with appropriate nurse regarding telemetry concerns and responds appropriately in emergency situations.
  • Uses the standard turnaround time for support department procedures, and tests and monitors patient activity to facilitate patient flow.
  • Serves as a liaison with the support departments during periods of perceived delays.
  • Maintains a safe and orderly environment by assuming responsibility for organizing and coordinating the communication center.
  • Accepts responsibility for professional growth and development.
  • Contributes to the continuous quality improvement process.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:

  • High school education or GED equivalent required.
  • Minimum of one year EMT or Paramedic experience required.
  • Successful completion of MWHC Basic Arrhythmia Exam prior to the end of department orientation required.
