Job Summary

An exceptional opportunity is available for a highly motivated and experienced Communications Specialist within the onWHARD group to work with clinical, research, community, and patient facing teams within the Dept. of Obstetrics and Gynecology Department. We are looking for a candidate who can work independently, and in collaboration with multiple project PIs, community members, stakeholders, and other partners with guidance. The candidate should be able to set up and/or manage all communications related to the research projects, advocacy projects, and patient/community facing initiatives to streamline, maximize efficiency, and ensure the successful engagement. The characteristic duties and responsibilities of this position may evolve over time to match changing needs and priorities.

Responsibilities*
  • Provide specialized professional expertise in the areas of content and communication.
  • Responsible for dissemination and communication of special projects, goals, results, etc.
  • Collaborate with research team to communicate feedback via reports (graphic design of final provider feedback reports) when needed.
  • Collaborate with team to create unified messaging strategy for output
  • Perform basic data review/analysis and graphing of data to include in presentations
  • Responsible for the development and maintanence of project websites/newsletters, and social medial engagement and communications:

The Communications Specialist will partner with internal departments and external organizations and share new learnings and receive updates on best demonstrated practices in community engagement from teams across the country; use new information to better craft/design to disseminate information and flyers. They will be accountable for developing, researching, composing, editing and completing a wide range and variety of writing/editing assignments such as research projects, proposals, reports, correspondence, articles, and presentations.

The person in this role will write and maintain communications content for various delivery methods. Coordinate and develop communications for multiple large projects and projects with high visibility. They will identify appropriate delivery methods, including presentations, targeted email, printed documents, newspaper articles, and web pages. Design, develop and implement communications, based on organizational and user needs. Evaluates feedback on communications and makes improvements. Employees in this classification typically analyze, compare and evaluate various courses of action and have the authority to make independent decisions on matters of significance, free from immediate direction, within the scope of their responsibilities.

Required Qualifications*
  • Bachelor's degree is required in communications, health education, health communications, public health, etc.
  • 3+ years of professional experience is required.
  • Ability to write for multiple audiences and at multiple literacy levels
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are a must.
  • Proficiency in -and research management software including reference management and file sharing software (e.g., Dropbox, Google Drive, Trello, Zotero), communication and meeting management (e.g., Zoom, Teams, Slack); and presentation software (e.g., Canva, etc.)
  • Well versed in MS Office products
  • A successful candidate should be able to work independently as well as part of a collaborative team.
  • Flexibility in work hours is required with some evening and/or weekend hours for community engagement/stakeholder meetings
  • Willingness to travel to state, regional, and national meetings
  • Onsite work -2-3 days per week
  • Exceptional time management and organizational skills are required.

Desired Qualifications*
  • Master's degree or PhD in Health Education, Health Communications, Public Health, Public Policy, or related field is preferred.
  • 5+ years of work experience
  • Previous administrative or research experience in an academic medical center is preferred

Note: this position is hybrid, with 2-3 days/wk onsite work required either in Ann Arbor, MI, and/or community-based work throughout Michigan. There will be some travel to regional and national meetings. Flexibility in work hours is required with some evening and/or weekend hours for community engagement events and/or stakeholder meetings.

Additional Information

This position effort is grant term limited and is expected to end at the time of grant ending for these projects, although continued funding after grant period is anticipated.

Background Screening
