Department Summary

The NNLM Region 3 office is responsible for reaching out to hundreds of organizations in a seven-stage region and being able to effectively/market or tailor our messaging has never been a strength of the office. The normal duties of our staff are focused on managing projects and teaching continuing education classes. In the past, managing regional contacts and communications to stakeholders are functions that have been distributed between two different positions. As the organization has evolved, it has become increasingly difficult for anyone to dedicate significant effort to ensure these essential functions are covered. Additionally, marketing and communications positions typically aren't ones that necessarily require an advanced degree, so for this program, it makes logical sense for us to have a dedicate marketing/communications specialist with expert knowledge instead of a masters-level team member whose time is split among many different responsibilities.

Position Overview

The Communications and Membership Specialist works closely with the Executive Director and Deputy Director to develop, implement, and evaluate a communications strategy to effectively accomplish the mission of NNLM Region 3. They will generate and design content for press releases, informational articles, and other types of communications across a wide variety of platforms, such as social media, quarterly newsletters, and professional trade publications. They will maintain multiple web platforms and communications channels, working with internal and external staff to ensure brand alignment, functionality, accurate information. In collaboration with outreach staff, this position will also direct the development of branding and messaging. Furthermore, the Specialist will be responsible for implementing best practices for network member and client management for the team. This includes maintaining relationships with partners across the region and serving as a representative on related national committees.
