Together, we are embarking on a journey where each and every one of us, individually and collectively, welcomes and celebrates individual differences.

As a Component Engineer - Electrical & Electronics, you will be a key player in the Production Development team, focusing on developing operations capability and capacity through innovation in a safe and cost-effective way. You will be at the forefront working with R&D, SCM and suppliers on manufacturing process and cost models to reduce cost during the design and manufacturing phase ensuring compliance to our cost goals through technical innovations.

Your responsibilities

  • Research, design, and develop manufacturing processes for specific components, considering factors such as material properties, production volume, and cost-effectiveness. Estimate component manufacturing cost, determine time standards, and make recommendations for tooling and process requirements of new and/or existing products.
  • Assess the quality, reliability, and compatibility of different components through testing, analysis, and collaboration with engineering and suppliers. Perform supplier capability and capacity analysis to make sourcing decisions and recommendations.
  • Conduct cost analysis on component manufacturing processes, materials, and equipment, identify cost-saving opportunities, and implement strategies to reduce expenses to achieve the target costs for materials. Collect and evaluate data from a variety of sources, including suppliers, market research, and internal cost structures, to build accurate cost models.
  • Conduct in-depth "should cost" analyses for various products, components, and materials to determine the true cost of production. This involves breaking down costs into raw materials, labor, overhead, and other factors. Stay updated on industry best practices and cost benchmarks to ensure the company's competitiveness in the market.
  • Develop guidelines/procedures on component selection. Evaluate supplier change or EOL notification as needed. Maintain component data management systems including qualification records/results/documentation.
  • Collaborate with P&L and quality to ensure suppliers meet quality and delivery requirements, resolving any issues related to component manufacturing, and identifying potential alternative suppliers. Lead Make vs. Buy decision analyses and support outside processing management when outsourcing is desired.
  • Support New Product Introduction (NPI) and R&D during new supplier and new material setup, including dual sourcing key materials during the development cycle, to assure long term robustness of the supply chain. Act as the technical interface between component/production suppliers, P&L and engineers determining new and alternate sources.
  • Work closely with Engineering, P&L, Quality, Manufacturing teams, and Suppliers to ensure smooth coordination and effective communication throughout the component manufacturing process.

Your background

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical/Electronic preferred) with 3+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Thorough understanding of manufacturing techniques and process of electrical and electronic components like PCBAs, Transformer, insulators and IGBTs required.
  • Experience with evaluation and qualification of electrical/electronic component manufacturers.
  • Ability to discuss designs with supplier to optimize designs for manufacture and assessing supplier capabilities.
  • Ability to analyze material cost breakdowns and accuracy based on market values through strong analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to work with engineering, SMC and suppliers to ensure technical requirements are met.
  • Experience with SAP and or Windchill PLM systems preferred.
  • Knowledge of should costing (aPriori) or process improvement tools and techniques (DFA, DFM, DtV) would be an additional advantage.
  • Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US.
