This position is a nonexempt position at pay grade 112.

Attendance

Non-rotating 40-hour work week, Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm; must be available to work additional hours as needed.

Overview

The Construction Inspector II for the Utilities division requires expertise in overseeing construction projects involving underground utilities, plants, and lift stations construction projects. The role entails daily inspection of contractor work on the project site, ensuring alignment with approved plans and specifications. Alongside this oversight, the inspector is tasked with administrative duties essential for smooth project operations. Effective communication and customer service skills are paramount for success in this multifaceted role.

Responsibilities

• The Construction Inspector II is responsible for ensuring adherence to plans and specifications for underground utility, wastewater plant, and lift station construction projects. This entails comprehending all project requirements and specifications and verifying that the contractor complies with them.

• Additionally, the role involves maintaining precise daily activity reports for the project, handling contractors' Requests for Information (RFI), and monitoring change requests. The role of the Construction Inspector II is advanced, requiring mastery of all responsibilities gained through previous work experience.

• The Construction Inspector II will be assigned a Construction Inspector I, ensuring their adherence to quality standards and maximizing performance.

• This role demands significant experience in Utility inspection, with inspection expertise being a pivotal qualification. The responsibilities include providing guidance, implementing strategic approaches, and prioritizing inspection experience.

• Additionally, the Construction Inspector II will offer mentorship and training as necessary to enhance the Construction Inspector I's skills and effectiveness.

• Administrative responsibilities encompass tasks such as generating daily reports, authorizing pay estimates, processing in collaboration with T&M submittals, thoroughly examining change orders, and reviewing/responding to contractor RFIs. These duties are integral to ensuring the smooth and efficient operations of the administrative aspect within the scope of this role.

• Billing for the project is managed by the Construction Inspector II in collaboration with the Engineering Project Specialist.

• This role will be involved in a wide range of project stakeholders including operating departments, contractors, business owners, franchise utility owners, Architect and Engineers, property owners, and the public.

• This position requires frequent involvement during difficult interactions and requires a high level of diplomacy.

• Additionally, this role entails working closely with citizens affected by project construction, addressing their complaints as they arise during the construction process.

• The Construction Inspector II will be tasked with the coordination of all required testing procedures. Ensuring that all necessary tests as completed promptly and efficiently.

• The Construction Inspector II will oversee the scheduling, implementation, and documentation of tests, guaranteeing compliance with project requirements and standards. Meticulous attention to detail and organizational skills are crucial in ensuring the successful completion of testing procedures within the construction project.

• The Construction Inspector II is responsible for facilitating all project meetings.

• Additionally, the role will serve as the central point of contact for coordinating with design consultants to address queries, resolve issues, and provide clarification on project plans and specifications.

• Any unforeseen discoveries are also managed through coordination efforts, ensuring seamless communication and resolution throughout the project life cycle.

• May be asked to perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Requires a High school diploma/GED

• Minimum of five (5) Years of experience in municipal infrastructure construction or another related field

• A combination of education and pertinent experience may be considered

• Proof of liability insurance.

• A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire

Basis of Rating

Application review and the City may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview.
