The HDR Arlington office is looking for a Construction Project Architect to be the onsite technical expert in Bethesda MD and will interact with the project management oversight team as the onsite representative. The Construction Project Architect will assist to resolve problems from minor to major scope and complexity. You will also assist in Quality Analysis and Control reviews of scheduled milestone packages with a particular emphasis towards constructability, coordination and value engineering. In addition, we'll count on you to:

  • Represent a multidiscipline architectural engineering team during construction projects
  • Negotiate, interpret documents and be a team player
  • Conduct meetings with clients, contractors and our project representatives
  • Conduct project observations to determine the progress of the work and general compliance with contract documents
  • Coordinate and assist with providing clarification and enforcement of construction documents, including processing of contractor requests for information
  • Assist owners in the preparation, review and processing of change orders to construction contracts
  • Obtain, process, document and maintain records relevant to a project, including but not limited to claims, change proposals and change orders, request for information, correspondence, payment application, contract documents, and other related documentation
  • Demonstrate knowledge while performing QA/QC reviews
  • Perform other duties as needed


Preferred Qualifications

  • A minimum of 10 years experience with field representation positions during construction strongly preferred
  • Healthcare experience strongly preferred
  • Strong team and leadership skills and communication and relationship management skills
  • Master's degree
  • Strong knowledge of all local and state codes of Maryland, IBC, UFC, FGI, and other applicable federal and industry standard guidelines
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Experience in Healthcare related projects and experience on Federal/DOD projects
  • Preference given to local candidates

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture or closely related field
  • A minimum of 5 years experience
  • Registered Architect
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Project Schedule)
  • Excellent written and communication skills
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Proficient in use of Autodesk Revit and familiarity with related tools and process
  • Demonstrated graphic presentation skills
  • Must have experience in preparation and layout of architectural contract documents and specifications
  • Strong knowledge of codes and good planning skills
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
