As a Construction Truck Driver, you will move equipment from work site to work site, pickup and deliver materials when dispatched to do so and operate a Dump Truck and trailer for Marine Maintenance and Port Construction Services. This position is a support role for multiple work groups within the Maritime and Corporate Divisions.
  • You will safely and efficiently operate Class 8 Equipment equipped with 10 Speed Manual Transmissions.
  • You will drive heavy trucks including multi axle trucks, Dump Trucks with 10 Speed Manual Transmissions and truck-trailer combinations.
  • You will ensure safety regulations are observed during the loading, transporting, and unloading of materials.
  • You will perform thorough safety inspection of tractors and trailers prior to operating equipment
  • You will maintain accurate paperwork and related records.
  • You will drive heavy dump trucks (more than 10,000 GVW and up to 105,000 GVW) with pup, tilt, or low boy trailers hauling equipment or material to construction sites or other Port properties.
  • You will complete timecard to document work performed during a shift.
  • You will send and respond to electronic mails, as needed.
  • You will attend periodic meetings during which training is provided and important safety issues are discussed.
  • You will assist other crafts as requested.


Who you are:

  • Experienced - You have five (5) years of experience operating Commercial Dump Trucks and/or Tractor-Trailer Combinations for moving equipment and materials. You possess a Washington State Class A Commercial Driver's License with Doubles Endorsement and Air Brake restrictions removed. Also, you possess a current DOT Medical Card and can retain the card for the duration of employment.
  • Educated - You possess a High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Desired - We hope you have ten (10) years of commercial vehicle experience operating some combination of Commercial Dump Trucks, Tractors, On-Highway Hauling, Class 8 Delivery Driving or Refuse Driving.

  • Truck Driving Expertise - You are knowledgeable of City, State and Federal commercial driving regulations and how to safely operate and load a trailer. You have a basic understanding of to operate Genie Lifts, Backhoes, Excavators, Bobcats, Rollers, large forklifts, vehicles and other like construction equipment so that it can be loaded onto a trailer.
  • Safety Conscious - You are aware of how to enter public roadways, load trailers, inspect vehicles and equipment, and maintain logs. You can lift up to 70 lbs. infrequently 40 lbs. more regularly in a safe manner.


What else you need to know:

  • Driver's License - You possess a Washington State Class A Commercial Driver's License with Doubles Endorsement and Air Brake restrictions removed.
  • Work Schedule - Your normal work schedule will be Monday - Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. (40 hours per week).
  • Work Environment - You will generally work outdoors in all types of weather conditions in and around public spaces and commercial properties. Tasks will be performed in areas involving potential hazards.
    Washington State Residency Requirement - Employees must establish a residence in Washington state within 30 days of their first day of employment and must maintain a residence in Washington State during their employment with the Port of Seattle. If a position is eligible to telework, work performed while teleworking must be performed in Washington State.
  • Overtime Eligible - You are eligible for overtime pay in this role.
  • Safety Requirements - You will be required to comply with all work rules, safety, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements.
  • Security Requirements - As the successful candidate, you must pass a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) background check as well as a criminal history background check with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Your employment will be contingent upon obtaining a Port of Seattle ID badge upon clearance.
  • Security Requirements - As the successful candidate, you must obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC) within the first three months of employment.
  • Union Representation - This position is represented by Teamsters union, Local 174.
