The Role
Tesla is seeking a highly-motivated Controls Engineering team at Gigafactory (GFTX) to lead and contribute to commissioning, integration and sustaining existing automated controls and robotics systems for Cybertruck. Similarly, lead design and development of automation equipment and assembly lines for new products and continuous improvement projects.


Responsibilities
  • Establish and sustain a controls engineering structure to satisfy the demand of manufacturing and development projects and needs across all value streams at the site
  • Develop robust strategies to improve upon existing CCS and DCS platforms across site value streams
  • Continuously set sustaining and machine development goals and objectives within the controls support organization and in conjunction with internal customer feedback and needs
  • Participate in initial equipment conceptual development and carefully balance product specifications, process control requirements, layout complexity, cost, quality, and lead-time limits
  • Lay out new industrial electrical control panels which are NFPA79/NEC/UL508A compliant, and create electrical, pneumatic and fluid schematics
  • Architect, write, and debug PLC logic with an emphasis on generating code that is organized, structured, documented, maintainable and reusable. PLC code will interact with subsystems such as conveyors, robots, Manufacturing Execution System (MES), LabView, machine vision and 3rd party equipment
  • Implement (ANSI/RIA15.06/OSHA compliant) control reliable safety systems for safeguarding robots, gantries, conveyors, and other high volume manufacturing equipment
  • Generate aesthetically simple HMI screens for complex machinery while providing sufficient feedback for troubleshooting
  • Manage electrical cabinet builds, field wiring, pneumatic and fluid plumbing
  • Introduce automated processes into production, and train and Maintenance and Production Teams to support after deployment into production
  • Create machine interactions with plant-wide Manufacturing Execution System (MES) to communicate product acceptability, machine status and process variables


Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent
  • 7+ years of experience as a hands-on Controls Engineer or Applications Engineer working on automation and/or electromechanical systems
  • 2+ years in a technical leadership role directly or indirectly managing engineers and or technicians
  • PLCs (Siemens TIA Portal, Allen Bradley ControlLogix, Omron or Beckhoff TwinCAT)
  • Safety PLCs (Allen Bradley ControlLogix, SIMATIC Safety Integrated, or Beckhoff TwinSAFE)
  • Human Machine Interface (HMI / GUI - Ignition, Studio 5000 View Designer, SIMATIC WinCC (TIA Portal), or TwinCAT HMI)
  • Field bus Networks (Ethernet IP, PROFINET, EtherCAT)
  • Familiarity with Electrical prints and standard for Industrial equipment
  • Proficiency with process integration and electromechanical / mechatronic systems
  • Familiarity with Cartesian, SCARA and Articulated robots is highly desired (Fanuc, Kuka, Motoman, Epson)
