This is an SME role for DEC Design Teams Controls Team. This position is responsible for developing designs, specifications and sequence of operations, partnering with our internal xfn partners, enabling the electrical and mechanical systems to operate in maintaining desired environmental conditions within our data centers across new builds, leases and retrofits. This position is responsible for leading and guiding our external partners (EoR's during design and CA) and GC (during CA) in application of the designs and sequence of operations during construction our data center buildings. This position provides the specialist expertise in resolving issues and developing sustained solution which may arise during construction or operations phases

Controls Engineer - DEC Design Responsibilities


  • The DEC Design team is responsible for developing and executing detailed designs, in partnership with our internal cross-functional partners (DEC Eng, Delivery, FacOps/FacEng, Site-Ops, ISCE) as well as our external partners (EoR's, GC+), as well as troubleshooting and developing sustaining solutions to issue/problems that may be identified during construction or operations. additional brief follows

  • Lead project Control engineering design, quality approval, process control, product evaluation, vendor proposals, evaluate product reliability, automated testing, software, research and development.

  • Responsible for controls systems strategies, design, specifications, programming, simulation, testing as well as vendor and commissioning oversight.

  • Lead development and initiate standards and methods for processes, control logic and sequences, testing, evaluation, and integration.

  • Review BMS change management and provide feedback.

  • Collaborate with multiple teams across different disciplines.

  • Drive project schedules while working closely with design and construction to ensure milestones and completion dates are on track.

  • Develop facility and vendor commissioning tests and standards for Control Systems project training close out efforts.

  • Travel as required (~25%) to review projects and coordinate with onsite personnel and contractors at project location during construction, including in support of startup testing, and commissioning,

  • Respond on an as-needed basis to emergencies

  • Owner Representative responsible for establishing requirements & design direction

  • drives alignment with business requirements and priorities.


Minimum Qualifications


  • Bachelor of Science degree in engineering or equivalent practical experience.

  • 10+ years of experience delivering engineering results.

  • Proven leadership experience such as leading large complex projects, leading teams, coordinating with a wide variety and diverse number of stakeholders.

  • Effective prioritization skills to continuously analyze workload and qualify priorities based on impact and effort, often involving shifting deadlines and quick turnaround.

  • Workflow efficiency and automation - demonstrated experience in improving/developing processes to drive efficiency, automating wherever possible.

  • Construction experience such as site walks, punch lists, field coordination, RFIs, clash detection, lessons learned feedback loops, etc.

  • Mission critical engineering project experience.

  • Detail oriented, experience providing solutions to complex problems, and proven experience to effectively manage deadlines.

  • Demonstrated experience effectively engaging with diverse stakeholders (internal and external) to extract, analyze, and qualify requirements to drive solutions from inception to completion.

  • Experience with construction management applications (e.g. e-Builder, Unifier, BIM360, Procore)

  • Previous experience with managing projects and project teams.

  • Organizational and communication skills.

  • Certifications in various control systems and proven fundamentals understanding of common controls protocols - BACnet, Modbus protocols including IP, ETH TCP, RTU, MS/TP and others.

  • Knowledge of thermodynamics and psychometrics.

  • Understanding of electrical systems and schematics.

  • Experience to establish working relationships and resolve interpersonal conflicts.

  • AutoCAD and VISIO experience.


Preferred Qualifications


  • N+ certification.

  • Previous Datacenter/Critical Facilities experience. .

  • Experience with tooling & automation development (i.e. computer programming/scripting, database integration, dashboards, APIs).

  • Background and understanding of hardware and network technologies

  • OPC UA understanding and working knowledge

  • Citect SCADA understanding and working knowledge

  • Fundamental and SME in PLC/Unity Pro experience.

$135,000/year to $188,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
