Position Overview

The University of North Texas at Dallas invites applications for the position of Coordinator New Student Orientation. The Coordinator of New Student Orientation, reporting to the Associate Director of Undergraduate Admissions, is part of a team responsible for developing, coordinating, executing, and assessing all the components of a comprehensive new student orientation program and other initiatives for new undergraduate students and their family members. As a key member of the Undergraduate Admissions team within the Enrollment Management unit in the Division of Student Access and Success, this individual will collaborate to link these programs with the overall recruitment and retention efforts of the University of North Texas at Dallas. This position is responsible for coordinating and administering specific programs and services related to New Student Orientation. This includes first-time in college, transfer, nontraditional and parent orientation programs, extended orientation programs, class identity programs and other new student/family transition initiatives. Duties include daily oversight of areas of responsibility, budget monitoring and assisting with budget allocation, marketing of programs, and assessment.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in related field and three years of student services, student affairs, counseling, advising or related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Demonstrated experience related to the administration and support of student services programming.
  • Strong presentation skills, problem solving, and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to work independently with accuracy and attention to detail and follow instructions without close supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask, work under pressure, prioritize and meet deadlines with overlapping projects.
  • Demonstrate a high level of customer service.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Masters degree from a nationally or regionally accredited institution of higher education.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with specific experience and thorough working knowledge of enrollment management departments and accompanying policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Three or more years of experience planning, coordinating, and executing medium to large scale events for freshman and transfer students in higher education.
  • Highly developed understanding of social justice concepts and practices.
  • Knowledge of student development theories, including social change theory.
  • Knowledge of and familiar with current trends and best practices in orientation, enrollment management, student support services and retention with a particular focus on undergraduate students.
  • Experience in volunteer coordination and supervision of student employees.
  • Familiarity with social media and web applications for outreach, productivity and other projects to enhance student engagement.
  • Experience implementing or working with online orientation platforms.

Job Duties:
  • Ensures all departmental communication to prospective and new students and parents reflects university branding and standards. - ()
  • Serves as webmaster for New Student Orientation webpage and other social media platforms.
  • Assists in the selection, training, supervision, and evaluation of approximately 10 orientation leaders (student employees).
  • Provides direct supervision and evaluation of a graduate assistant/intern and student employees.
  • Proposes and develops new programs and initiatives that meet the mission of New Student Orientation, the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, and the University of North Texas at Dallas.
  • Assists with implementation of various events and programs sponsored by the Office of Undergraduate Admissions and the Division of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management.
  • Assists the Associate Director of Undergraduate Admissions in the planning and execution of orientation programs, including the scheduling of speakers, development of presentations on behalf of the office, coordination of event logistics and production.
  • Contributes toward the development and implementation of assessments, evaluations and research activities related to students and programs.
  • Participates in the development, revision and distribution of marketing, educational, and informational publications and materials related to orientation and transition programs.
  • Collects, analyzes, and reports all orientation data to help aid in enrollment projections as well as improve services.
  • Serves as chair of the Orientation Advisory Committee as well as serves on other relevant campus committees as needed; ensures departments participation in the university's Quality Enhancement Plan and other major initiatives.
  • Develops and sustains cooperative relationships with academic departments, faculty members, Student Affairs and Enrollmen Management division colleagues, and other university departments and divisions.

Work Schedule:

Monday - Friday 8 AM-5 PM, some weekends as needed for programming.
