Job Description:

Histological procedures including tissue embedding in paraffin, tissue sectioning with microtome and cryostat (paraffin and frozen in OCT). H&E and special stains on pancreas, heart, spleen, kidney, lymph nodes.

Tissue sectioning (paraffin and frozen) for off-site investigator sample requests. Assist with sample archiving and retrieval for distribution. Operate multiple laboratory information management systems for sample tracking and histology. Assist in coordinating sample distributions and sample inventory management.

Perform tissue processing including receipt of tissue, gross and fine dissection, tissue fixation, freezing, and sample storage.

Assist with routine lab maintenance including ordering supplies, calibrating and checking equipment for proper function. Assist with periodic preventative maintenance on Core instruments. Troubleshoot equipment failures and arrange for or help with repairs. Evaluate new equipment to determine if it meets OPPC specific actions.

Review scientific literature to maintain and further understanding of Core technologies.

Assist in training and assessing new OPPC staff. Communicate with internal and external clients regarding OPPC and nPOD. Edit and write SOPs.

Other duties as assigned.

Expected Salary:

Starting salary is between $52,000 - $55,000

Minimum Requirements:

BA/BS in related scientific field required with hands-on experience in basic laboratory and scientific methods. Optionally, 4 years of experience in science related field with at least 3 years in core specific applications. Research-based experience preferred. Core or technology specific licensure and/or certifications where applicable. Additionally yearly certificate and compliance training if required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Histology experience working with human tissue such as pancreas, heart, kidney, lymph nodes, spleen and others.

Extensive skills in microtomy and manual special stains.

High attention to detail and problem-solving skills.

High proficiency in MS Office, especially Access and Excel. Ability to maintain accurate records and inventories.

Interpersonal/human relations skills - must be able to work collaboratively with other histologists.
