Under the general supervision of the Correctional Counselor II, this position is assigned to the management of a General Population incarcerated person caseload at San Quentin Rehabilitation Center. This position will perform peace officer duties as required.

Monitor caseload for incarcerated person annual reviews, changes in work or program status and changes in placement to or from mental health programs; prepare and schedule cases for appropriate classification committee in a timely manner. Recommend specific self-help and other programs provided by the Division of Rehabilitative Programs (DRP), based on the incarcerated person's criminogenic needs. Maintain a listing from the Community Resources Manager of religious and self- help programs available. Review available education or vocational programs and support service jobs with a mindset of equipping incarcerated persons with the skills needed for a job when they are released, including Youthful Offender Program incarcerated persons. Assist with the facilitation of the Prison to Employment plan by pairing incarcerated persons with job assignments or education classes which will provide for practical skill. Utilize the Rehabilitative Case Plan (RCP} System designed in Strategic Offender Management System to identify the current programs the incarcerated person is participating in and what they need for their own rehabilitative case plan to help them gain employment upon release. Ensure case work for fire camp incarcerated persons is completed expeditiously for referral and appropriate placement. Also ensure incarcerated persons who are not cleared for fire camp are expeditiously processed for transfer to proper housing (i.e., MCCF, MSF), and not delayed to the next annual. Be familiar with custody levels appropriate for general population incarcerated persons, criteria for custody placement and custody job assignment restrictions. Provide additional accommodation for disabled incarcerated persons to ensure equal access to programs, services, and activities, to include preparation for Board Suitability hearings.

Working Conditions

San Quentin Rehabilitation Center is California's oldest and best-known correctional institution, which was established on the site currently known as Point San Quentin, in July of 1852, as an answer to the rampant lawlessness in California at the time. The prison rests overlooking the bay on 432 acres and is located just 12 miles north of the Golden Gate Bridge in the county of Marin. The walled prison is made up of four (4) large cell blocks (West, South, North, and East Block), one (1) maximum security cell block (the Adjustment Center), Central Health Care Service Building, a medium security dorm setting and a minimum-security firehouse.
