Due to available budget allocated for this position, the hiring rate will not exceed $30.47 per hour.

Why does the job exist?

This position will provide safety, security, and orderly operations within an adult correctional facility, to include supervision of staff and inmates.

Ideal Candidate

Experience in the following:
* Supervision
* Working as a Correctional Officer Sergeant
* Working within an Adult correctional facility
* Writing and compiling reports
* Handling rapidly changing situations

Minimum Qualification

High school education or equivalent and four (4) years of experience in an adult correctional setting, law enforcement, and/or military, of which two (2) years must have been supervisor in law enforcement and/or military or as a Sergeant or above in a correctional setting.

Employment Requirements

This position is safety sensitive. Employment is subject to a pre-employment and random drug testing in accordance with all terms and conditions of federal and state rules and regulations regarding alcohol and/or drug testing. In addition, candidates must pass pre-employment Academy screening. For all custody positions, successful completion of the New Mexico Corrections Academy is required. Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Drivers License. The applicant must be a U.S. citizen, must be at least 18 years old, have at least a high school education or its equivalent, be of good moral character, have not been convicted of a felony in the courts of this or any state or in the federal courts, and successfully pass any physical and aptitude examination the department may require. Employment is subject to a pre-employment background investigation and is conditional pending results.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in an adult prison environment, which includes daily contact with and supervision of inmates. Willingness to work in a correctional facility, may be required to work odd hours, overtime, holidays, and weekends.
