Interviews are anticipated to be conducted within two weeks of closing date.

Due to the available budget allocated for this position, the hiring rate will not exceed $25.18 per hour.

Why does the job exist?

This position will maintain all aspects of the Fire, Safety and Sanitation Program within an adult correctional facility.

How does it get done?

* Conduct and assist in inspections and investigations related to fire code and related activities
* Maintain inventory and assure that all caustics are appropriately labeled and stored
* Maintain a safe working environment for staff and inmates within an adult correctional facility
* Supervision of inmate work crews within an adult correctional facility

* New Mexico Corrections Department (NMCD) staff
* Public and private partners
* Community members

Ideal Candidate

Experience with the following:
* Working with fire/safety equipment
* Working in a correctional setting
* Managing inventory

Minimum Qualification

High School Diploma or Equivalency and one (1) year of directly related experience. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling one (1) year may substitute for the required experience.

Employment Requirements

This position is safety sensitive. Employment is subject to a pre-employment and random drug testing in accordance with all terms and conditions of federal and state rules and regulations regarding alcohol and/or drug testing. In addition, candidates must pass pre-employment Academy screening. Successful completion of the New Mexico Corrections Academy within one (1) year of hire required. Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License. The applicant must be a U.S. citizen, must be at least 18 years old, have at least a high school education or its equivalent, be of good moral character, have not been convicted of a felony in the courts of this or any state or in the federal courts, and successfully pass any physical and aptitude examination the department may require. Employment is subject to a pre-employment background investigation and is conditional pending results.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in an adult prison environment, which includes daily contact with and supervision of inmates. Willingness to work in a correctional facility, may be required to work odd hours, overtime, holidays, and weekends.
