JOB DESCRIPTION:
Implement the District Comprehensive Guidance Plan responding to the unique needs of the individual student.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. In conjunction with the campus Lead Counselor, develops a campus-Level Comprehensive Guidance Plan based on identified school needs-includes activities identified in the District's Developmental Guidance Plan.

  2. Conducts individual and group counseling.

  3. Assists individual students in demonstrating self-confidence in reaching educational goals.

  4. Confers with students, parents, and teachers when needed.

  5. Conducts individual personal/academic student and parent conferences.

  6. Places students in appropriate instructional programs.

  7. Advises students of multiple academic opportunities.

  8. Shares information concerning programs available at the campus and throughout the District (e.g., Credit by Examination, Alternative School, Career and Technology Programs, etc. to students.

  9. Advises students in preparing/updating four-year high school plan.

  10. Assists campus test coordinator when needed.

  11. Coordinates school transition activities (Gr. 8 - Post-High School).

  12. Assists in the referral process and educational placement of students with special needs.

  13. Provides orientation sessions for parents.

  14. Provides college day/night, career day/night, and financial aid workshops.

  15. Adheres to time lines and procedures.

  16. Meets deadlines as established by the Technology and PEIMS Departments for scheduling and grade reporting.

  17. Maintains calendar schedule of school, counselor, and student activities.

  18. Attends required District in-service and staff meetings.

  19. Maintains student academic credit information.

  20. Plays an active role in dropout prevention.

  21. Serves as a resource for students, parents and staff members to access community resources.

  22. Maintains four-year plans.

  23. Demonstrates positive interpersonal relationships.

  24. Serves on the district crisis team.

  25. Cooperates with and supports faculty and staff.

  26. Demonstrates self-control and exhibits overall positive approach.

  27. Promotes positive self-image in students.

  28. Treats students consistently and empathetically.

  29. Consults with District Coordinator of Guidance and Counseling when necessary.

  30. Initiates procedure to analyze and modify, as necessary, performance of duties based on self-analysis, feedback from students and interactions with colleagues.

  31. Maintains and improves professional competence through reading, course work, and professional activities.

  32. Other duties as assigned.

  33. Regular attendance.

  34. Maintains confidentially.

  35. Transcribes records of student moving into the school.

  36. Maintains Personal Graduation Plans in accordance with state law.

  37. Completes student college and scholarship application information accurately and in a timely manner.
EXPERIENCE:

  • Two or more years of successful teaching experience
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
  • Master's Degree
  • Professional teacher's certificate
  • Professional school counselor's certificate

Special Knowledge/Skills:
  • Knowledge of counseling procedures, student appraisal, career development, and the college and financial aid application process
  • Excellent organization, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge and experience with various testing instruments
  • Knowledgeable about secondary academic curriculum
  • Knowledge/awareness of how to access community resources
  • Knowledge/awareness of college admissions and financial aid
