JOB DESCRIPTION:
Implement the District Comprehensive Guidance Plan responding to the unique needs of the individual student.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
- In conjunction with the campus Lead Counselor, develops a campus-Level Comprehensive Guidance Plan based on identified school needs-includes activities identified in the District's Developmental Guidance Plan.
- Conducts individual and group counseling.
- Assists individual students in demonstrating self-confidence in reaching educational goals.
- Confers with students, parents, and teachers when needed.
- Conducts individual personal/academic student and parent conferences.
- Places students in appropriate instructional programs.
- Advises students of multiple academic opportunities.
- Shares information concerning programs available at the campus and throughout the District (e.g., Credit by Examination, Alternative School, Career and Technology Programs, etc. to students.
- Advises students in preparing/updating four-year high school plan.
- Assists campus test coordinator when needed.
- Coordinates school transition activities (Gr. 8 - Post-High School).
- Assists in the referral process and educational placement of students with special needs.
- Provides orientation sessions for parents.
- Provides college day/night, career day/night, and financial aid workshops.
- Adheres to time lines and procedures.
- Meets deadlines as established by the Technology and PEIMS Departments for scheduling and grade reporting.
- Maintains calendar schedule of school, counselor, and student activities.
- Attends required District in-service and staff meetings.
- Maintains student academic credit information.
- Plays an active role in dropout prevention.
- Serves as a resource for students, parents and staff members to access community resources.
- Maintains four-year plans.
- Demonstrates positive interpersonal relationships.
- Serves on the district crisis team.
- Cooperates with and supports faculty and staff.
- Demonstrates self-control and exhibits overall positive approach.
- Promotes positive self-image in students.
- Treats students consistently and empathetically.
- Consults with District Coordinator of Guidance and Counseling when necessary.
- Initiates procedure to analyze and modify, as necessary, performance of duties based on self-analysis, feedback from students and interactions with colleagues.
- Maintains and improves professional competence through reading, course work, and professional activities.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Regular attendance.
- Maintains confidentially.
- Transcribes records of student moving into the school.
- Maintains Personal Graduation Plans in accordance with state law.
- Completes student college and scholarship application information accurately and in a timely manner.
- Two or more years of successful teaching experience
Education/Certification:
- Master's Degree
- Professional teacher's certificate
- Professional school counselor's certificate
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Knowledge of counseling procedures, student appraisal, career development, and the college and financial aid application process
- Excellent organization, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge and experience with various testing instruments
- Knowledgeable about secondary academic curriculum
- Knowledge/awareness of how to access community resources
- Knowledge/awareness of college admissions and financial aid
