WORK OBJECTIVE

THIS POSITION IS ELIGIBLE FOR THE CDL INCENTIVE:

[*IF REQUIRED TO REPORT: Must report to work for duty outside normally scheduled work hours in response to natural disasters, emergencies, rotational on-call assignments, or critical incidents as determined by City Administration.]

Supervises, leads, and performs skilled work of assigned employees in one or more of the following areas: streets/trees, concrete, and stormwater. Supervises, trains, and evaluates performance of unskilled and semi-skilled employees. Work is performed under the regular supervision of Public Works Operations Supervisor.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Oversees, supervises, and trains unskilled and semiskilled employees in the following responsibilities: equipment operation, installation, repair, maintenance, construction, streets and concrete maintenance, and line and drainage maintenance.

Prepares and maintains reports and work orders;

Trains employees and enforces safety regulations;

Maintains and monitors work schedules and time sheets;

Orders supplies, maintains and monitors inventory and cost records;

Performs employee annual performance evaluations;

Performs related tasks as required

According to their assigned department, responsibilities may also include:
  • Transport heavy equipment;
  • Design and set sidewalk and curb grade level; supervise concrete work;
  • Supervise operation of assigned department equipment including but not limited to: trucks, tractors, back-hoes, marsh master, track vehicle and other equipment in connection with tasks;
Serves as essential personnel during natural or man-made disasters and emergencies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or GED supplemented by a minimum of three (3) years of experience performing maintenance and repair responsibilities of the following: streets, utilities or other City related property. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered. Must have a valid Florida Commercial Driver's License Class A or B, and maintain an acceptable driving record. Previous supervisory experience is preferred.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Intermediate Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) certification is required at time of application for the vacancy.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Thorough knowledge of repair, maintenance, rehabilitation and construction of streets, or related City property.

Thorough knowledge of the tools, materials and equipment used in cleaning, repair and maintenance.

Thorough knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the work.

Working knowledge of business English, spelling and grammar.

Thorough knowledge of City and department policies and procedures.

Ability to read and communicate instructions and direction both verbally and in writing.

Ability to assign and supervise the work of others including performing annual employee performance evaluations.

Ability to prepare simple reports, drawings, sketches or work orders.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and contractors.
