The Law Department is seeking a Criminal Justice Administrative Assistant I to provide supervisory administrative support to the Prosecutor's Office. This department is comprised of the City Attorney's Office, which handles representing the city in civil matters, and the City Prosecutor's Office, which handles the prosecution of misdemeanor crimes committed in Phoenix.

The Criminal Justice Administrative Assistant I is an essential part of the Criminal Justice processes within the Prosecutor's Office. This position directly supervises staff in the Legal Assistant Unit (LAU). The LAU collaborates with criminal staff attorneys to prepare a case by conducting legal research, obtaining facts or evidence needed, and researching the criminal history of defendants, allowing the Prosecutor to present this information at sentencing to the court.

A Criminal Justice Administrative Assistant I handles a variety of administrative duties including:
  • Investigating business processes and d eveloping new/improved processes/systems, procedures, and forms.
  • Performing statistical analyses;
  • Conducting program and grant monitoring.
  • Studying administrative problems and/or issues.
  • Interacting with other criminal justice agencies to gather evidence and investigate evidentiary problems.
  • Redacting victim-identifying information from documents, and audio/video recordings.
  • Supervising and training clerical or technical personnel in a work environment where a high volume of cases are processed and with a variety of tasks to complete.
  • Performing special projects assigned by leadership.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

Will exhibit:
  • Familiarity with Rules of Court, Evidence, Discovery and Victims' Rights.
  • Knowledge of legal terminology.
  • Ability to pay attention to details.

SALARY

Pay Range: $23.74 to $44.77 per hour.

Hiring Range: $23.74 to $36.84 per hour.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • One year of paraprofessional experience in governmental research and finance administration or paraprofessional experience aiding an administrative officer in technical and administrative problems and affairs.
  • Bachelor's degree in public or business administration or a related field.
  • Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:
  • Experience supervising workgroups.
  • Experience investigating business processes; developing new/improved processes/systems, procedures, and forms.
  • Experience training and mentoring others.
  • Experience in municipal law and the criminal justice process.
  • Experience with redaction software.
  • Experience with criminal history research and investigation.
  • Experience with the Microsoft Office Suite and standard computer uses and applications (i.e., Microsoft Office Suite, WebEx, Teams, SAP, etc.).
