What you'll do:

The Bureau of Criminal Identification, known as BCI, is the state's official crime lab serving the criminal justice community and protecting Ohio families. BCI also provides expert criminal investigative services to local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies upon request. With offices throughout the state, BCI stands ready to respond 24/7 to local law enforcement agencies' needs at no cost to the requesting agency.

Staff at BCI work every day to provide the highest level of service. This includes special agents who are on call 24/7 to offer investigative assistance at crime scenes, knowledgeable scientists and forensic specialists using cutting-edge technology to process evidence to bring criminals to justice, and criminal intelligence analysts and identification specialists who help local law enforcement solve cases. Experienced special agents, forensic scientists, and other law enforcement experts' staff BCI's three main divisions: 1) Identifications 2) Investigations and 3) Laboratory.

The Ohio Attorney General's Office is currently seeking experienced and professional individuals for 2 Criminal Records Support Specialists vacancies in the Identifications Divisions of the BCI Section office. These positions will report to the BCI headquarters in London, OH daily. The purpose of the Criminal Records Support Specialist is to convert physical records into an electronic format and enter data into the designated systems of record. The duties for this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Convert physical records relating to an individual's arrest, conviction, and/or fingerprinting to electronic format.

• Retrieves physical records relating to an individual's arrest, conviction, or fingerprinting

• Converts physical records to electronic format as directed

• Compares quality of electronic records to physical record
  • Identifies the proper system into which electronic records must be uploaded
  • Uploads electronic records into designated system of record
  • Enter data from, and pertaining to, physical records into designated systems of record.
  • Reviews physical records received by BCI from courts, law enforcement agencies, and other sources as directed
  • Updates/logs information pertaining to physical records received by BCI in the appropriate systems of record
  • Enters information from physical records received by BCI into the appropriate systems of record as directed
  • Verifies data from physical records received by BCI matches the information entered into the systems or record
  • Files, refiles, or disposes of physical records received by BCI as directed
  • Performs related administrative duties.
  • Trains other Criminal Records Support Specialists
  • Reviews the work product of other Criminal Records Support Specialists
  • Review, log, distribute, file and/or re-file records associated with an individual's criminal history or criminal records check
  • Other duties as duties as needed to support the unit staff and operation of the unit

Qualifications

Formal & ongoing training for the systems of record used in the identification unit at BCI; training on any new or enhanced equipment/software used within the identification unit at BCI.

Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition, subtraction, multiplication & division & in writing & speaking common English vocabulary.

Knowledge of addition, subtraction, multiplication & division. Skill in typing 45 wpm; use of personal computer; use of a scanner; entry onto designated

systems of record within the identification unit at BCI. Ability to efficiently and accurately read, scan, and enter data from physical records into the designated systems of records.

-OR equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above.

Will operate a computer and/or scanning device for long periods of time.
