Job Description

The Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Central Sterile Supply (CSS) Surgery Technician to assist faculty and house officers during surgical procedures for routine, emergency, and after-hours cases. Instruct senior veterinary students by demonstrating and maintaining aseptic technique preoperatively, intraoperatively, and postoperatively. Maintains the daily flow of surgical operations to ensure the availability of personnel and operating rooms for all procedures. Orders and maintains supplies. Performs central sterile procedures including cleaning, packing, and sterilizing surgical instruments and supplies. Assist in other areas as directed by the supervisor. This position is essential and must report to work during inclement weather and authorized closings.
Must be able to report within 30 minutes when on call.

Required Qualifications

Successful candidate must have working knowledge of basic companion and large animal anatomy and physiology and experience in veterinary care of large and small animals. Excellent communication skills; must be able to safely move and handle up to 75lbs; rabies prophylaxis required (provided by employer)

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in hospital central sterile supply (CSS) and operating rooms; CSS instrumentation and sterile technique; ability to handle and restrain all species of animals; International Association of Health Care Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM); CERTIFIED Registered Central Sterile Technician (CRCST) or eligible for completion within 12 months of hire.
