The Office of Admissions is the front-facing department to the public for undergraduate recruitment for the Indiana University Bloomington campus. The Office of Admissions is responsible for recruiting a diverse and inclusive new domestic, undergraduate cohort class each year, counseling prospective students and their families about the admissions process, providing accurate information to the public about our recruiting requirements and standards, and marketing Indiana University Bloomington.

Job Summary

Department Specific Responsibilities
  • Works in a public facing setting with extended periods of high-volume client contact while maintaining a pleasant and professional demeanor.
  • Provides detailed information to students, potential students, campus representatives, and external publics on the policies and procedures involved in applying for admissions, as well as provides preliminary information on university related policies, procedures, and programs.
  • Provides information regarding the processing of applications and determines whether information is accurate and complete. Interacts with applicants to assist in completing applications, resolves discrepancies, and advises students, families, and external constituents, such as high school counselors, on correct procedures, timelines, and policy interpretations.
  • Answers inbound calls; communicates through emails, SMS/texts, live chat on Admissions website, and Admissions social media accounts.
  • Provides information through outbound call jobs.
  • Prepares mailings, such as admit packets responds to inquiries, and advises staff on correct procedures.
  • Manages on-going student record information and monitor accuracy of student accounts.
  • Verifies accuracy and completeness of services and ensure smooth flow of operation.
General Responsibilities
  • Oversees the processing and evaluation of all applications for admissions into that school and accompanying material, such as transcripts, to determine eligibility.
  • Maintains records and databases of applications; updates and purges as necessary; gathers and collates information from records and prepares reports.
  • Reviews applications for completeness, contacts applicants for any missing information or to resolve discrepancies, and obtains any necessary information from other sources.
  • Schedules and oversees any applicant interviews.
  • Makes recommendations regarding admissions and financial aid decisions; contacts applicant regarding the decision on the admission application.
  • Responds to phone and email inquiries on admissions process and status of applications; may assist in the design of recruiting events and materials.
  • Counsels potential students regarding courses and grades required for admission.
  • May supervise temporary staff in the admissions office; monitors and evaluates job performance.
  • Maintains files and databases on students admitted into the school; generates reports based on this information.

EDUCATION

Required
  • High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED)

Working Conditions / Demands

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus.
