Epsilon Systems Solutions, Inc. has a contingent job opportunity for a full-time CVN/LSD/LPD Machinery Control System Suite (MCSS) Engineering Technician Level IV in Norfolk, VA.

Summary: The CVN/LSD/LPD Machinery Control System Suite (MCSS) Engineering Technician Level IV will provide full-time support to Mid Atlantic Regional Maintenance Center (MARMC) Code 260.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Provide support for various assessments, inspections, and technical assistance as tasked via separate correspondence.
  • Provide technical SME support for INSURV / TSRA inspections/assessments, engine balancing and Sea Trials.
  • Troubleshoot propulsion and auxiliary hardware, such as transducers, Resistance Temperature Detectors (RTE), Thermocouples, Signal Conditioners, PLC, Input / Output Controllers (OICs), Network Switches and PC-based control and monitoring systems.
  • Provide technical assistance, assessment, inspections, corrective actions, and groom support as tasked for Division 200 cognizant shipboard equipment.
  • Conduct cold/hot checks to determine equipment condition and identify parameters that are out of specification. Observe operation of the equipment by ship's force to witness the full range of performance where possible.
  • Utilize appropriate measuring equipment to obtain data for evaluation.
  • Evaluate findings of the cold and operational checks and make adjustments and repairs to the maximum extent possible during the time available.
  • Provide written visit debrief/reports to the SME upon completion of each ship visit.
  • Attend conferences, seminars, etc. and report results to the SME as required.
  • Provide on the job training to Ship's Force (S/F) during shipboard evolutions.
  • May require travel 10% or greater.
  • May require overtime.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • H.S. Diploma or equivalent.
  • • A minimum of six years of experience in HM&E troubleshooting and repair with three (3) years of experience in the operation, troubleshooting, repair, maintenance and assessment of MCS / ECS / MCSS and Support Systems, with at least 6-month experience occurring within the last 12 months.
  • • Working knowledge of LPD-17 Class Engineering Control System (ECS), to include data communication systems, VME based Remote Terminal Units (VRTUs), ECS Consoles, MPDE (Main Propulsion Diesel Engine) Controllers, Pitch indicating and Torsionmeter systems
  • • Working knowledge of "Smartship" Machinery Control System (MCS) / Machinery Control System Suite (MCSS), LSD and /or CVN Class PLCs, HMI consoles and peripherals, Networks (AECS), PLMU, Pitch indicating and Torsionmeter systems.
  • • Knowledge of LPD/LSD, McNab / Wireless Data Torsionmeter systems.
  • • Knowledge of LHD/LPD/LSD Class Damage Control Consoles and peripherals.
  • • Demonstrate a working knowledge of Navy assessment programs, inspections, visit

processes and reporting methods for visits

  • • Demonstrate regularly using accepted current instrumentation for diagnosing equipment.
  • • Demonstrate ability for interpreting ship's drawings, wiring diagrams and control schematics as required to accomplish assigned tasks.
  • • Ability to utilize computers including the Microsoft Office Suite for compiling information for reports and history files and transfer digital pictures from camera to computer and enhance as required and label them for report purposes.
  • • Ability to interact and support other inspection teams such as but not limited to INSURV, ERAT.
  • Familiarity with JFMM guidelines and policies.
  • Comply with NAVSEA standard items.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally.
  • Pursuant to the various government contractual requirements, all applicants must be U.S. Citizens.
  • Must possess or ability to obtain and maintain a secret clearance


ADA Notations:

  • Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes up to 50 lbs.
  • Able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions.
  • Job may require bending, stooping, lifting.
  • Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces.
  • Able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels.
  • May require wearing a respirator.
  • Most work is performed aboard ships or in industrial conditions.
  • Travel may be required within and outside of the continental United States
