Position Information

The Dallas District is seeking a PS&E Section Supervisor to oversee its PS&E team, which consists of 10 engineers. The PS&E Supervisor will manage the district's large mobility portfolio for PS&E consultant managed design projects. The PS&E Supervisor will provide guidance to the team of engineers to ensure letting responsibilities are completed and project management principles are maintained. This position works with multiple offices including Area Offices, ROW, Utility and local government personnel.

Position Description

Supervises personnel engaged in transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, design, construction, transportation/traffic operations, maintenance and/or bridge inspection. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials, private entities and/or contractors. Employees at this level are virtually self-supervising and assume direct accountability for the work product.

Essential Duties:

  • Coordinates with Area Engineers on design and plan preparation.
  • Develops and monitors budgets.
  • Makes presentations and represents TxDOT.
  • Monitors consultants' progress and work quality; checks invoices and associated documents.
  • Participates in district plan review activities.
  • Prepares and submits Plans, Specifications and Estimates (P.S.&E.) on projects.
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related science bachelor's or higher degree accepted by TX PELS.

Experience:

  • 4 years experience in transportation engineering. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications
  • Must have one (1) year supervisory/managerial experience. Project leader or lead worker experience may substitute for supervisory/managerial experience.


Licenses and Certifications:

  • Valid driver's license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
  • Licensed Prof Engineer*


*Professional engineers licensed in another state in the United States , but not currently licensed in the State of Texas, must (1) meet the license requirements of the State of Texas Engineering Practices Act, (2) obtain a professional engineering license from the State of Texas within six (6) months of the date of hire, and (3) sign an agreement to that effect as a condition of employment.

  • Geometric design relationships to traffic operations, maintenance and construction.
  • Maintaining a safe working environment.
  • Monitoring the status and progress of projects.
  • Supervising technical staff.
  • Transportation design engineering principles, practices and methods and the application of.


Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Close Visual Acuity - work includes data/figures; view of a computer screen; extensive reading.
  • Sedentary work - lift up to 10 lbs at a time and occasionally carry files/small tools.
