A bachelor's degree in data or computer science, informatics, economics, statistics, mathematics, or a related field, and either: satisfactory completion of a two-year traineeship or two years of experience* in data visualization, and statistical models and data mining tools.

*Substitution: A master's degree in the above fields may substitute for one year of the specialized experience. A Ph.D. in the above fields may substitute for two years of the specialized experience.

Duties Description Preferred Qualifications:

• Analytical - analyze, interpret, summarize, and complete predictive modeling on various data sets from data warehouse.

• Creative / Visualizations - design and build creative dashboards, GIS, analytics, slide decks, and reports leveraging business intelligence tools (Excel, Power BI, Tableau) and with a user experience (UX) focus.

• Communication - Solicit and document requirements and business rules from users, present findings to executive team and document analytics.

• Statistical - knowledge of statistics and experience using statistical packages for analyzing datasets (Excel, SAS, Python, R, etc.)

• Data Query - leverage business intelligence (BI) tools, SQL, and ETL Tools to access data sources

Job Duties:

1. Analysis & Design:

• Work with requester and subject matter experts to solicit business requirements and business rules for data analysis requests. Requests support WCB program areas, business processes, legislative changes and WCB areas of focus.

• Complete initial data analysis and data profiling as well as proposed design and mockup of solution.

2. Data Analytics & Visualizations:

• Complete data analytics (leveraging BI tools, SQL, and Excel) to produce BI findings and recommendations.

• Design and build data visualizations, charts, and graphs to support user needs (Excel, Power BI, Tableau) with focus on user experience (UX).

• Create written reports and effectively communicate and present results.

• Produce business intelligence & analytics solutions by querying data repositories and generating periodic reports.

3. Data Science:

• Leverage Pentaho (BI tool), Excel, Python, R, and other tools for deep dive data science and analytics into areas of focus.

• Developing "data stories" that succinctly and precisely summarize the results of data analysis. Summarize and organize findings and recommendations into Excel, PowerPoint, and Word reports.

4. Data Engineering:

• Collaborate with ITS ETL team for further development of data warehouse and data marts and other data engineering tasks.

• Work with ITS BI team to further improve user experience including data dictionary, self-service schemas, dashboards, and reports / analytics.

5. Data Management:

• Assist with Master Data Management initiatives; coordinating activities with Data Owners, Stewards and Custodians and helping to define MDM rules.

• Test, validate, and formulate models to ensure Data Quality. Conduct or coordinate tests to ensure that business intelligence & analytics solutions are consistent with defined needs.

• Assist with all data management needs including meta data, documentation, and securing proper access to data.

• Support users with questions, training, and reaching user acceptance testing (UAT).
