About the Team:

The Americas content team analyzes data, reports industry-relevant news and makes weekly price assessments and monthly forecasts focused on a range of chemical and energy commodities. We have a unique opportunity for a data analyst to join our base oils and oleochemicals benchmark markets team within the wider group to support our global suite of products and services and help deliver on our company's strategic vision for these key commodities. This role will work closely with senior market analysts in the Americas to enhance analytical capabilities as well as with global refining analysts.

About the Role:

The data analyst will join a team to help shape a comprehensive view of the North and South American markets for base oils and oleochemicals in real time to provide actionable intelligence for customers. This role is an excellent opportunity for any analyst looking to become a commodity subject matter expert as you will be able to contribute quickly and shape your path toward your goals in a company that values employee career development. The role will be based in Houston, Texas, but is a hybrid role with two days a week in the office.

You will be responsible for:
  • Collating, modeling, interpreting and analyzing data; explaining variances and trends in the base oil and oleochemical sector.
  • Developing deep understanding of base oil and oleochemical market drivers and contributing to the production of written analysis explaining and predicting market developments.
  • Communicating key findings through the ICIS platform in real time.
  • Identifying enhancements to data generation, analysis and modelling.
  • Traveling to events and public speaking opportunities as needed.
  • Presenting of the team's analysis and representation of ICIS at external related events.
  • Contributing to maintenance of the global supply and demand database.
  • Performing all other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:
  • Have expertise in a refine related industry would be advantageous.
  • Have proven quantitative and qualitative research skills either in education or employment.
  • Have experience as a data analyst, ideally in the energy or petrochemicals space.
  • Have excellent oral and written communications skills.
  • Have keen attention to detail and high levels of proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Have working knowledge of Tableau, PowerBI, SQL and Python and experience applying these to solving analytical problems would be advantageous.
  • Have excellent communication skills and an aptitude for building contacts and networks.
  • Have experience with forecast modeling software and methodologies would be advantageous.
  • Have Spanish and/or Portuguese language skills would be advantageous.
