Coordinates the Quality initiatives related to the Mary Washington Healthcare Cardiovascular programs at both State and National levels. Abstracts and organizes data obtained from concurrent and retrospective chart review of cardiac patients that come through the Cardiac Cath Lab and Electrophysiology lab. Accountable for providing accurate, efficient and cost effective clinical data collection and analysis while inputting the data into the National Cardiovascular Database Registry (NCDR), database. The database includes PCI, ACTION and ICD registries.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for system's data integrity and analysis
  • Trends recurrent issues with data entry and keeps the Department Manager informed.
  • Performs outcomes analysis, identifies trends, initiates review and assists with coordination of MWHC cardiovascular quality improvement team meetings.
  • Monitors the data entered by department end-users, identifies incorrectly entered data and other discrepancies that may affect the integrity of the data, and facilitates corrective action and education of the end users.
  • Ensures data integrity and timely harvest for deadlines according to National Cardiovascular Database Registry (NCDR) definitions/specifications and Virginia Cardiac Surgery Quality Improvement collaborative (VCSQI). Collaborates with Cath Lab/EP Manager to ensure validity of data.
  • Enters data into the appropriate data management system with accuracy and in accordance with required data submission deadlines.
  • Evaluates data collection requirements, independently seeks knowledge necessary to perform accurate data collection and establishes an efficient data collection plan.
  • Functions as the department expert and primary contact for Cath Lab registries and computer systems.
  • Attends annual NCDR conference to ensure competency in all facets of Cardiovascular programs.
  • Represents the organization at VCSQI monthly and quarterly meetings.
  • Creates presentations to present at cardiology division meetings, managers, quality improvement committee and physicians.
  • Provides on-going education to staff regarding registry changes and definitions, computer changes and how to better capture data.
  • Delivers system reports to internal and external customers
  • Generates reports and transmits to individual(s) assigned responsibilities for performance review and improvement. Assists others with data analysis including an explanation of limitations of data and how to use the data appropriately.
  • Generates outcome reports, graphs, specific patient outcomes and presentations with dissemination to Mary Washington Healthcare committees, division meetings, Cardiologists, and managers.
  • Retrieves, sorts, validates and inputs data using a variety of computer applications to create reports to meet the information needs of the department and the organization.
  • Works with internal and external staff to design and implement the most efficient data retrieval and reporting process. Seeks to continuously improve data collection methods and reporting formats.
  • Submits data to National Registries in partnership with the Manager. Resubmits data, as necessary.
  • Monitors upgrades and coordinates with computer systems and labs.
  • Other duties as assigned


Qualifications:

Required:
  • High School Diploma
  • Minimum of 2 years cardiac experience (CV surgery, Cathlab, EP lab, Cardiac Care)
  • Extensive knowledge of invasive cardiovascular procedures and terminology
  • Advanced computer skills to include: data input, Excel, Outlook, Microsoft office, electronic medical record, spreadsheet skills, patient care information systems, data management and analysis, and other required software.
  • Skilled in medical record review using established abstraction guidelines.
  • Must possess clear communication skills (written, verbal, and presentation).
  • Must understand the approached and methods to performance improvement.


Preferred:
  • Bachelor's degree in science field
  • Cardiovascular Trained Technologist (CVT) or Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS)
  • Performance improvement and Quality management experience


License and/or Certifications

Required:
  • CPR


Preferred:
  • ACLS
