Reporting to the Director, Institutional Research, the Data Reporting and Query Analyst II is responsible for the production of both standard and customized data reports to support decision-making by various College constituents, including decisions related to student success, program review, and planning. This position demonstrates technical expertise and leadership in developing, implementing and maintaining systems to collect data; and produces statistics, analysis, and reporting relative to internal and external requests for data to support the College's strategic plan and objectives.

Specific Responsibilities
  • Design and create data structures to produce reports that make data actionable and to facilitate decision making for senior management.
  • Write SQL scripts that enable the creation of data structures and transform data for use with available platforms.
  • Manage data in relational databases using SQL programming language to query, inspect, and code data in preparation for analysis; and create project documentation.
  • Use enterprise databases, static external databases, and other sources to create, test, and publish complex reports and dashboards for institutional effectiveness.
  • Provide leadership in the development, testing, publishing, and maintenance of the centralized
  • Institutional Research Intelligence Dashboards and work to streamline reporting activities and processes.
  • Demonstrate technical expertise for reporting responsibilities related to institutional projects with an emphasis on state, federal, and externally mandated reporting to fulfill compliance regulations.
  • Provide leadership to the IR team to identify the best means to display data, e.g., dashboards, charts, reports, pivot tables and subsequently build the same.
  • Engage in collaborative relationships with campus constituencies to understand data needs and requirements, and design data-collection strategies, dashboards, benchmarking studies, and effectiveness outcomes using available tools.
  • Manage all phases of assigned research and evaluation projects and oversee the analysis and dissemination of deliverables.
  • Utilize data management best practices and ensure the highest level of rigor in the use of data to produce information that is consistent.
  • Maintain confidentiality, sensitivity, understanding, and respect for a diverse academic environment, inclusive of students, faculty, and staff of varying social, economic, cultural, ideological and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Represent the Institutional Research office on behalf of the Director of Institutional research as requested.
  • Participate on College committees, task forces and work groups in support of the College's mission and vision as assigned.
  • Assist and train junior research analysts in the business processes of the Office of Institutional Research as well as technical skills as need.
  • Creates and maintains project documentation to support the consistency, efficiency, and integrity of Institutional Research
  • Representing the College at institutional research consortia (e.g. PACCC )
  • Supports in the administration and analysis of institutional research, surveys, and focus groups used to identify and improve organizational and institutional effectiveness
  • Seeks and pursues the continuous professional development necessary to maintain updated and relevant skills in a quickly changing field; recommends the adoption of new technologies and reporting strategies as appropriate.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field required. Any and all degree(s) must be from a regionally accredited institution of higher learnings.
  • A minimum of four (4) years of full-time experience in data management and analysis and delivery of high-quality reports and presentations required.
  • Previous work experience in a higher education environment required.
  • Demonstrated proficiency managing and analyzing large datasets from varying sources required,
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and analytical ability required.
  • Ability to write SQL scripts required.
  • Proficiency with SQL programming to develop, tune and optimize reports/queries required.
  • Proficiency using MS Excel and related tools required to manage, analyze, and report data required.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative required.
  • Ability to demonstrate effective time management and multi-tasking required.
  • Ability to manage complex projects effectively and communicate ideas and data outcomes accurately and clearly required.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team required.
  • An understanding of, and sensitivity to, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds of community college staff and students required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Experience using Tableau, Microsoft BI and Argos preferred.
  • Expert level knowledge of data querying and manipulation of data within statistical packages such as SPSS and/or R preferred.
