Under the direction of the Information Technology Supervisor II with the Department of Industrial Relations (DIR), Office of Information Services (OIS), the Information Technology Specialist I (ITS I) is a member of the Oracle Database Administration (DBA) team and has the primary responsibility of supporting and maintaining the numerous Oracle Database development, test preproduction and production environments for DIR OIS.

The incumbent will be assigned a cubicle located on the 4th floor of the Elihu Harris State Building located in Oakland. The location has elevator access and is fully air conditioned with natural and artificial lighting. The position may require on-call duties. Telework will be allowed under certain circumstance or as job duties dictate. Most times, the incumbent will be working in front of a computer. A laptop pc will be provided that can be brought home by the incumbent as necessary.

Department Information
The Department of Industrial Relations (DIR) was established in 1927. DIR administers and enforces laws governing wages, workplace safety and health, apprenticeship training programs, and medical care and other benefits for injured workers.

    Knowledge Of:

    Oracle Relational Database structure, including the ability to perform analysis and design on an underlying Oracle database. Creating and structuring multiple data storage systems. Data storage and access needs. Setting up and managing user access and permissions. Identifying and resolving database issues when they arise. This can range from discovering data loss or corruption to supporting recovery efforts after server failures. Data backup activities, including determining backup schedules. Data retention guidelines, server space and business critical data recovery procedures. Monitoring daily server and database activity and system logs. Best practices and principles of data storage. Data privacy and security, particularly during backups and migration

    Skills: Effective verbal and written communication skills with both technical and business staff. Possess detail oriented and effective organizational skills. System troubleshooting and debugging skills that include the ability to quickly assess and create solutions to database related issues when they arise.

    Abilities: Work in a fast-paced environment and deliver products and services without compromise. Work in a team environment to develop solutions that meets the organizational needs. Learn and articulate new concepts and techniques. Identify and resolve conflicts by empathizing with the needs of staff, coworkers, and business partners. Possess a professional and solid work ethic.
