Microsoft Cloud Operations and Innovation (CO&I) is the team behind the cloud. Within CO&I, the Datacenter Engineering (DCE) team is responsible for delivering core datacenter infrastructure for Microsoft's cloud business. The MS portfolio consists of complex, multi-disciplinary, large scale, multi-year datacenter construction and lease projects. We are looking for a passionate, high-energy individual to help build the cloud datacenters that power the world's largest online services.

This Datacenter Engineering Principal Design Manager position will fulfill an on-site role at Microsoft's datacenter campus supporting ongoing construction activities . This role will serve as a daily on-site presence to review progress of multiple concurrent datacenter builds . The position will be responsible for monitoring progress for compliance with construction documents from initial stages through commissioning. This role will work closely with the datacenter engineering and construction teams to support multi- discipline coordination, issue identification and resolution, and continuous improvement efforts. The successful candidate will be responsible for the ongoing documentation of project learnings for incorporation into future designs.

Responsibilities:

The Datacenter Engineering Principal Design Manager will manage the engineering scope, schedule, and budget for greenfield, brownfield andretrofitengineering / designprojects. This position will manage internal and external resources for the delivery of the Datacenter building, power, cooling, telecom, and controls infrastructure to align with Microsoft Corporation datacenter capacity roadmap for the Americas.

The Datacenter Principal Design Managerwill be responsible for thefacilitation and deliveryof Microsoft's industry-leading datacenterdesigns including the development of innovative technology and advanced concepts from Site Due Diligence through design development,permitting,construction, and the turnover toOperations. This role will provide design management, technical direction, decision-making and overall leadershipfor our datacenter designs. To be successful in this role the candidate will overseethedelivery ofmultiple, concurrent,completeDatacenter designsolutionsaligned with the scopes, schedules,and budgetsof the projects. The Principal DesignManagerwill engage with key MS stakeholder groups withinMicrosoftas well as outside vendorswhospecialize in datacenter architecture and engineering.
  • Coordinatea team of architects, engineers and designers and deliver projects aligned with the defined scope, schedule, and budget.
  • H ave excellentcommunication, organization, and leadership skills.
  • Po ssess a high level of proficiency in commercial and industrial architecture andengineeringwith a primary focus on datacenter design.

Qualifications:

Required/Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree AND 6+ years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.
  • 3+ years of experience working on mission critical or high-tech projects
Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check : This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Minimum of10years of experience inengineering, equipment and/or construction for mission critical or hi gh -tech industry .
  • Professional Engineer License
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as design of construction project or teammanager .
  • Bachelor's degree in A rchitecture or Engineering or related field.
  • Technical understanding of mission critical environments .
  • Ability to lead team s of architects and engineers in advanced engineering and operational processes and procedures as they relate to large data center environments.
Technical Program Management IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
