Cloud Operations + Innovation (CO+I) is the team behind one of the world's largest cloud infrastructures, responsible for powering all Microsoft online Products and Services as well as powering Microsoft's "Cloud First" mission. Within CO&I, the Datacenter Engineering (DCE) team is responsible for delivering core datacenter infrastructure for Microsoft's cloud business. The Microsoft portfolio consists of complex, multi-disciplinary, large scale, multi-year datacenter construction and lease projects. We are looking for a Datacenter Engineering (DCE) Principal Site Due Diligence (SDD) Manager to help build the cloud datacenters that power the world's largest online services.

This role is located either in one or all hub locations - Atlanta, GA, Washington, D.C., Redmond, WA, San Antonio, TX or Phoenix, AZ.

Relocation support will be provided, and successful candidate will need to relocate or reside within 50 miles of the hub office location.

Responsibilities:

The Datacenter Engineering Principal SDD Manager will manage the engineering scope, schedule, and budget for greenfield and brownfield sites with a focus on site due diligence and site selection. This position will manage internal and external resources for the delivery of the Datacenter building including master planning, feasibility studies, and infrastructure planning to align with Microsoft Corporation datacenter capacity roadmap for the Americas. The DCE Principal SDD Manager will lead the Americas SDD Design Management team including presenting recommendations to the Leadership team, reviewing and preparing RFPs, providing technical recommendations and coordination with various stakeholders, and collaborating with Global Microsoft SDD colleagues.

The Datacenter Engineering Principal SDD Manager will be responsible for thefacilitation and deliveryof Microsoft's industry-leading datacenterdesigns including the development of innovative technology and advanced concepts in Site Due Diligence to be used as the basis for future design. This role will provide program management, technical direction, decision-making and overall leadershipfor our site due diligence (SDD) projects. To be successful in this role the candidate will overseethedelivery ofmultiple, concurrent SDD projects with a focus on scopes, schedules, and budgetsof the projects. TheProject Managerwill engage with key MS stakeholder groups withinMicrosoftas well as outside vendorswhospecialize in datacenter architecture and engineering.

Core Responsibilities:
  • Manage a team of Design Managers, and oversee external architects, engineers and designers and deliver projects aligned with the defined scope, schedule, and budget.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree AND 6+ years' experience in engineering, construction engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years of experience in people management.
  • 3+ years' experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.
Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check : This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preffered qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in architecture, engineering, or construction engineering and 10+ years' experience in engineering, architecture or construction engineering.
  • 8+ years Project Manager with experience leading site due diligence/feasibility technical reviews with multiple stakeholders for Data Center or technical projects.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer or Architect.
Technical Program Management M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
