Job Summary

Direct Care and Treatment (DCT) is seeking an individual to join our DCT Administration Office for an exciting and rewarding opportunity as our Tribal Relations Director! This position will represent DCT in coordinating clinical services and transitions in care with tribes and urban Indians, assures culturally informed clinical programing across DCT, and drives positive outcomes for Native Americans served by DCT. The incumbent will report to the External Relations Executive Director and have regular meetings with the DCT Health System Chief Executive Officer on issues that impact tribes and urban native communities and is responsible for developing agency wide strategic planning recommendations; project formation, project management and recommendations; and other performance improvement initiatives to achieve desired outcomes.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Serve as a liaison between DCT and Tribes and urban native communities, as well as other government agencies, counties, community partners and key stakeholders as necessary and related to treatment of Native Americans in DCT.
  • In conjunction with DCT Transition Director, coordinate, and complete agency-wide efforts to effective transitions in care for Native Americans served by DCT, assuring culturally informed clinical programing across DCT, and the reduction in healthcare disparities.
  • Manage, plan and complete agencywide project that are focused on the improvement of patient, client, and staff disparities of Tribal members in DCT.


Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Three (3) years of experience working with Tribal Nations, Urban Indian communities, and/or Tribal Governments. Experience must include:
  • Managing programs, including strategic planning, and directing the work of staff.
  • Interacting and participating in tribal affairs or in a tribal community-based position.

Candidates will be further assessed on the following:
  • Knowledge of and respect for Native American values, cultures, and traditions in Indian Country.
  • Knowledge of tribal government functions and operations sufficient to recommend appropriate strategies related to government training and development programs.
  • Knowledge of tribal laws and government.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative and consultative manner with tribal governments to accomplish goals and objectives in cooperation with tribal governments.
  • Ability to gain trust and credibility with eleven federally recognized tribes and with Urban native communities.
  • Ability to build support among Tribal and Urban Indian communities for agency initiatives and programs.
  • Strong interpersonal skills sufficient to mediate, negotiate, and manage relationships with tribal governments, indigenous people and communities, urban Indians, agency staff, and other stakeholders, and effectively resolve problems or issues.
  • Commitment to and experience with diversity, inclusion, and equity.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in social work, psychology, or other related behavioral health field.
  • Experience working in a behavioral health setting and/or traditional healing.
  • Minnesota Tribal government work experience.
  • Knowledge of the history and culture of Minnesota Tribes.
  • Holds a license as a licensed independent clinical social worker (LICSW), licensed marriage and family therapist (LMFT), licensed practical clinical councilor (LPCC), or licensed psychologist (LP) in the state of Minnesota; or who is license eligible for any of the aforementioned licensures and able to obtain licensure in Minnesota prior to start date.
