Description

  • Collaborate with parents, healthcare professionals, and other ECI providers to develop and implement family-centered strategies and support documented by the Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP) through Early Childhood Intervention (ECI) agencies for each student assigned.
  • Educate families on the impact of hearing loss on their child's development; focusing on mode of communication, language, audition, and amplification to maximize student's receptive and expressive development using a variety of intervention strategies.
  • Partnering with families and other professionals to update the SKI-HI Language Development Scale, MacArthur, Minnesota, CASSLS, and/or other checklists to track, and utilize initial and ongoing child and family assessment information.
  • Utilize a variety of sources to plan and use developmentally appropriate listening and language strategies to reflect the needs of the student's communication during daily routines.
  • Participate in community appointments, IFSP process, NECAP study, and the transition process with the families working toward a preschool placement decided by the Admission Review Dismissal (ARD) Committee.
  • Support program child/family outcomes and ECI/Deaf Education program policies through accurate on time eligibility, IFSPs, and progress note documentation.
  • Collaborate with ECI agencies, Local Education Agencies (LEA) in shared service arrangements, medical providers, and Speech Language Pathologists to provide D/HH infants earliest possible access to intervention and to provide seamless service to families.
  • Keep informed of and comply with federal, state, district, and school regulations and policies for special education teachers working with the 0-3 population. Understanding and complying with each ECIs policies and procedures as outlined.
  • Compile, update, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other required documents for the district and ECI agencies.
  • Performs all other tasks and duties as assigned.
  • All federally funded incumbents of this position must comply with time and effort reporting requirements through personnel activity reports or periodic certification, as appropriate.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university, Deaf Education Certification,
  • Valid Texas Teacher Certification in Deaf Education EC-12.
  • Teaching experience preferred.
  • Additional Certifications Preferred: ESL or ESL supplemental certification.
  • SKI-HI Certification preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Admission, Review, and Dismissal Committee process and Individual Education Plan goal setting process and implementation.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Individual Family Service Plan process and outcomes to be implemented in the home and/or community.
  • Demonstrated general knowledge of curriculum and instruction.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of special needs of students in the assigned area.
  • Demonstrated willingness to improve competency by periodically participating in some form of professional growth.
  • Demonstrated willingness to remain current with the latest developments in the profession.
  • Demonstrated strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills required to achieve the goals of the position.
  • Demonstrated appropriate sign language skills for instructional purposes.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with hearing impaired individuals.
