Job Description:

Reporting directly to the Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs, the Dean of Professional and Technical Students serves as the chief administrative officer for the School of Professional and Technical Studies. The Dean provides strategic oversight to ensure high-quality and relevant instruction in credit courses, certificates, and degrees in fields including, but not limited to, information technology (including cybersecurity), business, accounting, criminal justice, health information management, and skilled trades. The Dean of Professional and Technical Studies will serve as the College's academic lead for credit for prior learning and lead the establishment of robust non-credit to credit pathways and expand our A.A.S. Technical Studies program. The Dean will work collaboratively with the college's academic and student affairs leadership team, teaching faculty, Workforce Solutions and regional educational and industry partners to ensure that academic programming supports student success and aligns with the needs of the local business community. The Dean provides visionary leadership for the school, builds supportive relationships with faculty, directs assessment and accreditation activities related to school programs, and directs the development of new transfer and career pathways. Compensation and Benefits
The hiring range for this position is $110,000.00 - 135,000.00 per year, however, actual starting salary will commensurate with education and/or experience. The position is an administrative role and as such is eligible for the benefits package offered by the Commonwealth of Virginia for state agencies and the Virginia Community College System. Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree in relevant field
  • Full-time (or equivalent) college teaching experience
  • Significant supervisory and/or leadership experience
  • Understanding of and commitment to the community college philosophy and mission, including our emphasis on diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with ability to tailor communication to a myriad of audiences
  • Demonstrated evidence of positive working experiences with diverse faculty, staff, students, and/or community members as well as the ability to effectively address and resolve conflict
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Doctorate Degree in a field related to a discipline housed in School
  • Community college teaching experience
  • Academic administration experience
  • Familiarity and/or experience with instructional quality standards, especially in an online environment
  • Experience with course and curriculum development, especially in collaboration with industry partnerships and grants
  • Ability to leverage data, including job data and employment outlook data, to develop and revise programs
  • Knowledge of best practices in credit for prior learning.
