Job Summary

UT Southwestern Medical Center is hiring for a Decedent Care Driver for the Willed Body Program.

This role is intended to aid the WBP in conducting removals from residences, hospitals, nursing homes, and other healthcare settings. Assignments will be based in the metroplex area and extend throughout Texas, with potential assignments in Oklahoma and Louisiana. This position will also receive training to support families in completing donation consent forms, handle death calls while in the office, and assist other WB staff as needed. Additionally, this role will perform various other duties as required by the department.

This is a 2nd Shift position with rotating work schedules. Hours are 2 PM to 10 PM

Week One - Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday/Friday Saturday

Week Two - Sunday/Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday

Experience and Education
  • High school graduate, or GED, at least one (1) year related work experience and a valid State of Texas Driver's License are required.
  • Attendance in a school of mortuary science or work experience in a morgue setting is preferred.
Job Duties
  • Operates motorized vehicle and transports donors from place of death to Medical Examiner's Office and/or the Willed Body Program from hospitals, nursing homes, medical examiners offices, and/or residences
  • Performs duties relative to receiving, placing, identifying bodies in morgue and verifies identification of body by armband, compartment label and record-of-death form accompanying body
  • Releases bodies to authorized persons
  • Maintains vehicle operating records and reports needed maintenance and repairs. Performs minor and routine maintenance such as refueling, ensuring proper tire pressure and checking oil, water and batteries periodically
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Requirements

Must have a good attitude and work well with others. Must be able to lift, pull, and push at least 150 lbs., although training is provided. Position requires driving, so a clean driving record is required (no outstanding tickets or warrants). Must have a Texas driver's license or be willing to obtain a Texas driver's license within 30 days of employment. The State of Texas requires a background check on all candidates (no felony convictions). Must have a flexible schedule other than school requirements.
