Introduction

The Department of Health Services (DHS) , Central Wisconsin Center (CWC) is recruiting for a Dental Assistant. CWC provides short-term and residential services to assist people living with intellectual disabilities in acquiring the personal skills needed to reach their highest potential. CWC is located at 317 Knutson Drive on the North side of Madison. CWC also has a 24/7 fitness center, free parking, and is on the Madison Metro bus route.

Position Summary

As the Dental Assistant, you will provide chairside dental assistance and office supportive services in CWC's Dental Clinic. This position involves a wide range of responsibilities and the ability to coordinate multiple activities simultaneously to ensure an efficient dental clinic operation. As the Dental Assistant, you will need to have familiarity with patients with developmental disabilities and be able to use practical experience, adjust to the dentist's preferred methods of operation and keep current on dental assisting, dental materials, and office procedures. The physical demands of this position include walking, standing, and sitting. Manual dexterity is also necessary to complete many dental duties. CWC has an overall Active Treatment philosophy of using evidence-based strategies, practices and programs which target resident's individual preferences and needs.

Salary Information

The starting pay for this position is $24.00 per hour, plus excellent benefits. A 12-month probationary period is required.

A $2,000 sign-on bonus applies to those with no prior state service in the last five years; who stay with the facility in the position until completing probation. Bonus will be split, $1,000 upon hire and $1,000 after completing probation.

Pay for current or former state employees will be set based on the rules that apply to compensation for the applicable transaction. This position is in pay schedule and range 06/11.

Job Details

All applicants who may be appointed to this position will be required to allow DHS to conduct a background check to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled.

All appointees will be required to receive a TB test, which will be administered by CWC or medical personnel approved by the facility prior to their start date.

DHS does not sponsor work visas for this position, thus, in compliance with federal law, selected candidates will be required to verify eligibility to work in the United States by completing the required I-9 form upon hire.

Qualifications

Minimally qualified applicants will have:
  • Training or experience working as a dental assistant.
Well qualified applicants will have:
  • Experience providing dental services to individuals with developmental disabilities.
  • Ability to adapt to the needs of the team and the client/patient.
