POSITION DUTIES - Position serves as an analyst for the Commercial Driver License (CDL) aspects of the driver testing and education programs in the Driver Testing Unit of the Driver Education and Testing Section, and issues related to federally mandated rules and regulations as it related to Commercial Driver License training and testing. The position is responsible for administering the Third-Party Testing Agreement, which authorizes private and public persons and agencies to conduct driving skills tests on behalf of the Secretary of State. The position assists with administration of the department's driver education program to ensure compliance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Entry Level Driver Training (ELDT) requirements. The position conducts CDL testing business inspections, CDL test site inspections, route review and approval, covert/overt observations of CDL skills testing, check rides, and training of CDL examiner candidates as well as required refresher training. The duties of this position require statewide travel with assignments away from the assigned workstation approximately 50% of the time.

Educational level typically acquired through completion of high school and the equivalent of at least two years of full-time active-duty experience at or above the E-6 level in the uniformed services may be substituted for the education requirement.

Departmental Analyst (Departmental Trainee) 9

Education-

Educational level typically acquired through completion of high school.

Experience-

Four years of experience as an advanced 9-level worker in an ECP Group One classification.

OR

Three years of experience as an E9, E10, or E11-level worker in an ECP Group One classification.

OR

Two years of experience as an experienced level worker in an ECP Group One technician or paraprofessional classification.

OR

Two years of experience as a first-line supervisor in an ECP Group Three classification.

OR

One year of experience as a second-line supervisor in an ECP Group Three classification.
  • Paraprofessional classifications are those requiring an associate's degree or two years of college.
Educational Substitution-

College credits may be substituted on a proportional basis (one year of college education may substitute for one quarter of the required experience) for up to one half of the required experience.

Position requires incumbent possess and maintain a valid driver's license, in accordance with agency's driving record standards.

A Group A or Group B Commercial Driver License (CDL) with air brakes and Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements is preferred, but not required.

Position requires incumbent be a United States Citizen and pass a thorough background investigation to comply with Public Act 7 of 2008, Public Act 23 of 2008, and the Memorandum of Agreement between the State of Michigan and the Department of Homeland Security.
