The Division of Engineering Services (DES), Program/Project Management & Office Engineer (PPM&OE), Office of Program Management (OPM), Program Performance Branch (PPB), is recruiting to fill a Research Data Specialist II (RDS II) position, located in Sacramento.

Under the general supervision of the Program Performance Branch Chief, a Senior Bridge or Transportation Engineer, the RDS II functions as the lead worker to RDA I, RDA II, and RDS I staff, and is the data acquisition and reporting specialist for the Division of Engineering Services (DES). The RDS II determines the scope of research and sources of information necessary in order to coordinate the collection, compilation, analysis, interpretation, and automation of all DES expenditure, executive summaries, and project resource data for use in Resource Target Plan (RTP), DES workload, management indicators, performance metrics, and other applications. The incumbent also uses the data to make recommendations to Executive Staff on DES policies and future performance indicators. The incumbent will be an expert within DES on workload and expenditure information and will be responsible for publishing relevant guidelines and automating and maintaining custom reports and creating ad-hoc reports. The RDS II will function as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) relating to ongoing and/or upcoming ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System (QMS) efforts and activities.

Working Conditions

Position located at 1801 30th Street, Sacramento, Sacramento County.

This position may be eligible for telework. The amount of telework is at the discretion of the Department and is based on Caltrans's evolving telework policy. Caltrans supports telework, recognizing that in-person attendance may be required based on operational needs. Employees are expected to be able to report to their worksites with minimum notification if an urgent need arises. The selected candidate will be required to commute to the headquartered location as needed to meet operational needs. Business travel may be required, and reimbursement considers an employee's designated headquartered location, or primary residence, and may be subject to CalHR regulations or applicable bargaining unit contract provisions. All commute expenses to the headquartered location will be the responsibility of the selected candidate.
