Job Title: Desktop Support Technician

Position. 12 Months

Location: Columbia, SC

Pay Range: $18/hr to $22/hr. on w2

Job Description:

As a Desktop Support Technician, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth operation of IT systems within our organization. Your primary responsibilities will include the installation, configuration, and maintenance of workstation software and hardware for our IT users. You will also assist in troubleshooting end-user problems by following documented procedures and scripts. This role demands a strong focus on customer service, as you will be providing Tier II support to IT users for basic software and hardware issues.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Installation and Configuration (40%): Follow established policies and procedures to assist in the rollout and installation of workstation software and hardware. Perform software updates, handle computer setup, and manage peripherals from site to site.
  • Maintenance (40%): Maintain workstation hardware and software, including replacing faulty hardware and correcting software issues. Order replacement parts and track inventory status. Ensure that tools and equipment are properly licensed and approved.
  • Data Backup and User Assistance (20%): Complete data backups and restorations for users. Assist customers/users with questions regarding their equipment. Conduct software testing and evaluation of new software and hardware.

Work Environment:
  • Fast-paced, multi-platformed environment requiring 24X7 action and response to support customer needs.
  • Currently comprises 14 members.
  • Responsible for handling new hire and replacement deployments, including PC setups, peripheral installations, software installs, and imaging of assets.
  • Routine transporting of items weighing up to 30 lbs, occasionally up to 70 lbs.

Education and Experience:
  • Associate Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, or 2 years of relevant work experience.
  • A Certification preferred.
  • 1 year of technical operations support experience preferred.

Day to Day Responsibilities:
  • Log in each morning to review incoming work/requests from customers.
  • Validate orders (software/hardware) with customers for each deployment.
  • Organize work orders in OneNote and merge data from multiple inputs.
  • Create build sheets and coordinate with the imaging lab to start the imaging process.
