Job Summary and Qualifications

Job Summary:

The DevOps Engineer delivers on strategic commitments from start to finish for all aspects of the Physician Services Group organization within IT&S. This technically focused position is responsible for designing, developing, testing and implementing solutions across the Enterprise. The engineer can quickly learn and make use of existing solutions as well as research and implement new technologies based on identified areas for improvement. They have an understanding of the services provided while understanding the direction of the Physician Services Group. Can develop relationships throughout the organization to assist in accomplishing its goals for the company.

The DevOps Engineer works with development teams to support current environments, infrastructure automation, and software deployment. They will provide problem resolutions for systems as needed. Assist to improve team practices/processes.

They work to improve and revise the team's development processes with the goal of achieving technical excellence utilizing any resources available. They are a highly motivated self-starter and are committed to delivering high quality solutions within agreed upon timelines.

Analytical and design ability, possess creativity for problem solving, troubleshooting and innovation ability; knowledge of the business implications of technical approaches, directions, and solutions; ability to innovate in complex technical areas, ability to achieve results, project planning/coordination skills, and strong communication skills.

General Responsibilities:

  • Help build tools, automations, and infrastructure that enable teams that rely on SysOps to be successful with minimal interaction and manual intervention from team members
  • Design and implement solutions that improve deployment quality and velocity, infrastructure resiliency, security, and data availability
  • Write code to automate operations in PowerShell, python, bash, etc.
  • Design and implement custom 24x7 monitoring and alerting solutions
  • Create and maintain a strong documentation set
  • Research, investigate, and implement new technologies
  • Rotating Oncall within the team


Desired Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • 3+ years relevant professional experience in Linux and Windows environments
  • Knowledge of one or more development languages (Go, Python, C#, PHP, PERL, Ruby, etc)
  • Knowledge of one or more scripting languages (Bash, PowerShell, etc)
  • Experience in Linux command line, as well as the configuration and administration of the operating system
  • Experience in designing and deploying applications, scripts, and monitoring tools
  • Experience with relational database systems (MSSQL, MySQL, etc)
  • Experience with web server installation, configuration, and administration (Apache, Nginx, Tomcat, IIS)
  • Experience implementing, configuring, and making use of monitoring tools (Nagios, Splunk, Datadog, ELK)
  • Experience designing, implementing, and managing configuration management tools ( consul, vault, Chef, Ansible)
  • Experience using git for maintaining source code
  • Experience implementing Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery workflows
  • Experience with build tools (Jenkins, TFS)
  • Understands the full stack and is capable of trouble shooting issues at every layer
  • Passion for shipping high quality code, preferring simplicity over complexity
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to understand and analyze complex business and technical problems
  • Ability to work in a collaborative environment with multiple teams
  • Desire to be challenged and enjoy working in high pressure situations
  • Understanding the importance of using the right tool for the job
  • Experience with application performance testing and production simulation preferred
  • Understands operational analytics processes and has the ability to interpret data trends to identify opportunities for improvement
  • Experience with ITIL concepts for best practice implementations of change management, continual service improvement, problem management, business continuity, and incident management preferred
  • Experience with high availability infrastructure and application design and disaster recovery techniques preferred


Education, Experience and Certifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree - Preferred
  • 3+ years of relevant work experience - Required
