About the Role

Our world-leading Time & Frequency department are seeking an experienced and practicing DevOps Manager.

We are now working in a hybrid way, with a mix of remote and office working. You will be joining our team at an exciting time - we maintain the UK's National Time Scale, UTC (NPL), and are currently developing a new resilient Time Scale facility that will underpin our Critical National Infrastructure. This will address the risks associated with our dependency on global navigation satellite systems (such as GPS) that are vulnerable to both natural and intentional interference.

As DevOps Manager, you'll work closely with the Product Manager(s) and Delivery Manager(s) to align product and business requirements, develop proposals, and balance tech debt to deliver product functionality .

Key responsibilities:
  • Gather, challenge, clarify and document technical requirements coming from business leadership
  • Collaborating with the Program me Manager to determine the architecture that fulfils the established roadmap
  • Source code checking with continuous integration, automated test tool configuration, application topology configuration, automated deployment and proactive environment monitoring & management
  • Cyber security hygiene
  • Serve as a gatekeeper between Engineering teams and Service Delivery teams, to provide handoff from Engineering to Production
  • Oversee software release management
  • Manage the software builds, packages, and deploys for consumption, with consideration to incidents or problems which have been identified affecting production
  • Manage Cloud accounts on Azure
  • Manage all content going live
  • Develop scripts to automate DevOps functions

About You

Reporting to a Programme Manager, you'll play a pivotal role in the design of critical UK infrastructure that pushes the boundaries of measurement accuracy for the UK's new resilient Time Scale.

To be successful in this role, you will have the following skills, experience, and qualifications:

  • Degree level educated in Computer Science, Engineering, Software Engineering (or closely related discipline), or equivalent experience
  • Proven and recent experience in the delivery of DevOps solutions in Azure
  • Experience in cyber security hygiene practices and cyber security technologies
  • Acting as Product Manager, to translate business requirements into technical solutions
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex technical concepts to cross-functional teams
  • Team player with a proactive, never-fail attitude in the face of ambiguous situations

It is also desirable if you have interest in Physics, measurements, and communications, for example:

- Time and frequency measurement and time scale steering
- Real-time monitoring and control of electronic hardware
- Satellite communication, optical fibre and GNSS-based systems
