Summary
Performs all vascular/diagnostic ultrasound procedures fixed and mobile according to the policy and procedures that are provided by the department. A level IV sonographer must have four registries. One must be in Musculoskeletal (RMSKS) and one must be in Vascular (RVT). Other registries may include any combination of Abdomen, OB/GYN, and/or Pediatrics. Currently practicing all four specialties. Must be proficient in abdomen, appendix, portal duplex, TIPS evaluations, aortoiliac duplex, mesenteric duplex, renal duplex, renal transplant duplex, thyroid, cervical lymph node mapping, testicular, obstetric, gynecological, neonatal and pediatric exams, carotid duplex, upper and lower extremity venous duplex, upper and lower extremity arterial duplex, upper and lower extremity arterial physiologic studies, evaluations of bypass grafts and stents, upper and lower extremity venous and arterial mappings, hemodialysis access exams, upper and lower extremity pseudoaneurysm evaluations, rheumatology and orthopedic musculoskeletal exams of specified joint, muscles, ligaments, and tendons. Assists the radiologist and other physicians in ultrasound guided invasive procedures including needle biopsies, paracentesis, thoracentesis, joint aspirations, joint injections and needling/lavage procedures. Assists in ultrasound guidance for operating room procedures. May be required to take on-call during designated hours to provide ultrasound coverage per specific department needs. General computer skills as needed. May transport non-narcotic medications as directed. Interacts with medical staff and other outside entities regarding ultrasound matters. Works positively with all customers to promote patient, employee, and physician satisfaction. Participates in performance improvement initiatives. Participations in staff/student orientation training.
