The MOVE! Program Coordinator has the ultimate responsibility for planning the local weight management program based on the national guidance provided in VHA Directive 1120.01 Core Requirements for MOVE! Weight Management Program for Veterans. They are administratively responsible for the weight management program and provide program-specific leadership, guidance and direction, technical advice, and staff development. MOVE! Program Coordinators have oversight responsibilities for program and procedure development, set goals, monitor, and redefine priorities and may have an active role in the resource management for the program. They direct or participate in the design of quality improvement initiatives, including data collection and analysis, and provide input into relevant research activities as requested.

Duties include but are not limited to:
  • Plans strategies for the management and delivery of services according to VHA Directive 1120.01 Core Requirements for MOVE! Weight Management Program for Veterans.
  • Manages all aspects of the program for the facility, assuring local compliance with national policy.
  • Establishes, maintains, and leads the VA medical facility interdisciplinary MOVE! weight management team.
  • Facilitates regular interdisciplinary MOVE! team meetings, which may be carried out in conjunction with other relevant VA medical facility committees (e.g., Health Promotion and Disease Prevention Committee, Veterans Health Education Committee).
  • Actively participates in the VA medical facility Health Promotion and Disease Prevention Program Committee.
  • Responsible for coordinating the activities of the interdisciplinary MOVE! team to ensure access, quality, and care coordination and to promote whole health patient-centered care practices and self-management support for weight management.
  • Maintains a system to ensure that complaints and inquiries are appropriately received and resolved.
  • Maintains up-to-date program information accessible through web sites and approved social media outlets.
  • Collaborates with the VA medical facility MOVE! Provider Champion to plan, develop, implement, monitor, and evaluate VA medical facility MOVE! programs, including review of relevant program data
  • Sets priorities, delegates tasks, meets multiple deadlines, analyzes organizational problems, and develops and implements effective solutions for program quality improvement.
  • Undertakes or participates in special projects, ongoing analysis, or research initiatives that have high priority for VISN and national level management. This may involve developing written reports, participating in special committees, workshops or developing or fostering cross facility activities.
  • Educates staff on applicable VHA directives, handbooks, and other policies.
  • Monitors for consistent use of weight management documentation and workload strategies.
  • Serves, in collaboration with the VA medical facility MOVE! Provider Champion and other clinical context experts, as a subject matter expert to provide education and consultation on evidence based weight management services and interventions, including pharmacotherapy and metabolic and bariatric surgery.
  • Provides weight management care by developing and implementing care plans, practicing within their scope and clinical privileges.
  • Facilitates care in multiple settings, such as in-person, telephone or virtual, group or individual, and is familiar with Veteran self-management support tools (e.g., secure messaging, Annie).
  • Demonstrates leadership in patient advocacy, in protecting the health, safety, and rights of patients. Advocates for weight management services for Veterans and implements strategies to reduce weight bias and stigma in weight management care.
  • The incumbent works under the general supervision of a manager who establishes objectives and department priorities.
  • The incumbent is expected to complete work assignments with relative independence and minimal guidance, personally setting the deadlines for completion of work. Assumes responsibility in work assignments in accordance with regulations and independently resolves most conflicts by using considerable judgment and interpretation.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned which are appropriate for this grade and assignment.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:
  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) or Registered Dietitian (RD) - Must be registered with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) the credentialing branch of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics formerly known as the American Dietetic Association (ADA).

Grade Determinations: Dietitian (Facility Program Coordinator), GS-12.

Experience: One year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: In addition to the experience above, the candidate must demonstrate the following KSAs:

  • Knowledge of program administration establishes program goals and objectives, coordinates activities, evaluates accomplishments and solves problems.
  • Skill in developing quality improvement or research activities.
  • Skill in developing training and reference materials.
  • Ability to develop policies and procedures.
  • Ability to provide program-specific coordination to include leadership, technical advice and staff development.

Preferred Experience: in the MOVE! Program 1 year+
