Duties

HPDP-VHEI and EWH Coordinator:

- Leading a diverse multidisciplinary team in planning, developing, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating the HPDP, VHEI and EWH program and services and integrating the plans into the medical facility's strategic plan and related programs.

- Engaging in continuous process and product improvement to support the quality and effectiveness of HPDP, VHEI and EWH programs and services.

- Conducting a facility-wide needs assessment of HPDP, VHEI, and EWH programs and services to determine based on assessment results.

- Coordinating with facility staff (e.g., POA, CDCE, My HealtheVet Coordinator) to develop an available resource inventory/listing of HPDP, VHEI, and EWH programs and services.

- Chairs the HPDP-VHEI Committee/Subcommittee and EWH Subcommittee, ensuring diverse interdisciplinary representation from various clinical service lines.

- Assist with budget planning and monitoring, responsible for the purchase of a variety of products, materials, and goods used for HPDP, VHEI, and EWH programs, services, and activities.

- Establishes and maintains lead points of contact at each CBOC to ensure implementation of HPDP, VHE, and EWH programs, services, and activities.

- Collects, analysis, synthesize data to provide regular reports on the status of the HPDP, VHEI, and EWH program and services, to direct supervisor and other facility leaders as assigned.

- Advocating for policy, procedure and program development and resource allocation to support HPDP, VHEI, and EWH programs and services.

- Establishes, cultivates, and maintains effective working partnership relationships with other clinical disciplines, non-clinical staff and service lines/unit's.

- Representing the medical facility HPDP, VHEI and EWH Program on appropriate committees.

- Serving as POC for communication between the VA medical facility, National and VISN, HPDP, VHEI, and NCP Programs. National and VISN EWH entities.

Duties (HPDP-VHEI Coordinator):

- Ensuring all HPDP, VHEI programs, services and resources are Veteran-centered, designed, and developed in accordance with National VA policy and guidelines.

- Participating in orientation programs for new health care clinicians.

- Serving in collaboration with other clinical content experts as a subject matter expert in HPDP and providing education on evidence based HPDP products and services to PACT and other clinical staff.

- Collaborating with facility staff to develop consistency between facility strategies and VHA CPS guidance statements.

- Advising facility leadership and primary care leaders on clinical and administrative issues related to HPDP, including clinical preventive services.

- Serving as the lead facilitator of the TEACH program and supporting Veteran-centered communication skills training and clinician coaching for clinical staff.

- Collaborating closely with other members of the Healthy Living Team, MOVE! and facility staff.

- Providing limited HPDP related clinical responsibilities consistent with occupation specific licensure requirements.

- Integrating HPDP and VHEI program and services with Whole Health System to strengthen the cultural transformation model.

- Reviewing health education print, audiovisual, and electronic resources to ensure readability, cultural appropriateness, health literacy, and current evidence-based content.

Duties (Employee Whole Health Coordinator):

- Initiate and maintain at least 1 Whole Health educational program, such as Taking Charge of My Life and Health, MOVE! or Thrive.

- Develops and delivers well-being classes, seminars, workshops, to include but not limited to nutrition, mental, emotional, social, physical, and environmental well-being, based on national guidance.

- Conducts ongoing tracking and analysis of outcome measures which assess the positive benefits of well-being offerings on employees.

- Demonstrates evidence that staff practice workplace behaviors reflecting self-care and well-being for themselves.

- Solicits feedback from employees on satisfaction, interest, expectations for EWH program, including but not limited to via web-based questionnaires and focus groups at least every two years.

- Responsible for scheduling, approving instructors, selecting classes, and organizing activities and events.

- Develops training material for staff educational needs, including new employee orientation (NEO).

- Establishes, cultivates, and maintains effective relationships with service chiefs, managers, and supervisors.

- Keeps track of medical facility service lines/unit's independent employee well-being offerings and records them in the National Employee Whole Health LEAF System, inclusion of all EWH well-being offerings.

- Coordinates and delivers Whole Health Foundational Training offerings for staff.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:
  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) or Registered Dietitian (RD) - Must be registered with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) the credentialing branch of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics formerly known as the American Dietetic Association (ADA).

Current VHA Dietitians that qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision may not be promoted to a higher grade if they do not meet the current RDN/RD requirements.

Grade Determinations:

Dietitian (Facility Program Coordinator), GS-12.

(1) Experience. One year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level.

(2) Knowledge, Skills and Abilities. In addition to the experience above, the candidate must demonstrate the following KSAs:

(a) Knowledge of program administration establishes program goals and objectives, coordinates activities, evaluates accomplishments and solves problems.

(b) Skill in developing quality improvement or research activities.

(c) Skill in developing training and reference materials.

(d) Ability to develop policies and procedures.

(e) Ability to provide program-specific coordination to include leadership, technical advice and staff development.

Assignment. For all assignments above the full performance level, the higher-level duties must consist of significant scope, complexity (difficulty) and variety and be performed by the incumbent at least 25% of the time. Employees in this assignment serve as Facility Dietitian Program Coordinator leading a multi-disciplinary team. Dietitian Program Coordinators may provide direct patient care by developing and implementing comprehensive nutrition therapy, practicing within their scope/clinical privileges. They are administratively responsible for a specialty program and provide program-specific leadership, guidance and direction, technical advice and staff development. Dietitian Program Coordinators oversee responsibilities for program, policy and procedure development, set goals, monitor and redefine priorities and may have an active role in the fiscal management for the program. They direct or participate in the design of research activities or quality improvement studies, including data collection and analysis. Dietitian Program Coordinators have oversight of and are responsible for developing and maintaining training and reference materials. They maintain program information through approved social media outlets. Dietitian Program Coordinators may supervise up to two employees. This assignment must represent substantial additional responsibility over and above that required at the full performance grade level and cannot be used as the full performance level of this occupation
